Churton Park Community Walkers
Newsletter 09 April 2023
'Three times' a winner!!
Daphne Jones, a regular walker with the group, has just returned from a trip to Australia where she competed at the Australian Masters Athletic Championships. Daphne entered three races (1,500m, 5,000m and the 10 kilometres road race) and won all three. A great achievement Daphne and we send you our congratulations.
Last Weeks Walks
Fifteen PP, 16 SS (with 9 completing the additional option) and 16 FF enjoyed the walks last week. The Thursday walkers (plus a dog) walked from Churton Park to Johnsonville and return, enjoying the nice calm evening. The Friday walkers were scheduled to venture out from Owhiro Bay to Sinclair Head with an option to walk to Red Rocks and return.
Convenor/Deputy Convenor
With Brian Vincent now wearing the Convenor's hat we can inform everyone that David Pegram has taken up the role of Deputy Convenor. Thanks David, your assistance will be much appreciated.
This Weeks Walks (Wednesday 12 April)
All walks start and finish at Outlet City (DressMart) Tawa. The SS’s take in some new territory and the PP’s and FF’s revisit previous walks.
PP’s: A 4.43km loop all on footpaths and walkways. A minor hill but the majority is flat. You can see the walk here.
SS’s: A 6.23km loop with the first half taking in some new territory on the eastern side of Tawa and the second half taking in the undulating streets of the western side of Tawa. You can see the walk here.
FF’s: A 6.99km loop taking some of tracks, some footpaths and some walkways. Al always there are some hills. You can see the walk here.
Parking
Parking for all groups is within the Outlet City carparks. Please leave the prime parking areas near the entrance for shoppers.
Coffee
Coffee is anywhere you want to arrange with other walkers before your journey back to Churton Park. Main choice is the café within Outlet City, with Thyme and Simmer as choices on the way home. At this stage we have not booked.
Website
When you open the website to view your walk have a quick look at the “Home Page”. This usually has a new picture each week generally showing a view from one of our walks.
Cancellation
If the walks are cancelled an email will be sent out as early as possible but definitely before 8:00am.
Enjoy your walks.
Brian Vincent.
Koha
Every week we leave a note about Koha in the newsletter. We have no idea what private sharing arrangements are in place regarding getting rides but we trust that those who don’t regularly bring cars do make up for it in some small way, be it buying a coffee for the driver or by making some small cash donation.
Walk Schedules
You can look at the walk schedule for the rest of April here.
Photos
Below are some photos from last week and earlier. Walkers please try and take a photo of each group on walking days and email them to peter@jville.kiwi preferably small size (around 450kb).
