Churton Park Community Walkers
Newsletter 19 February 2024
Last week’s walks:
We had a great turn-out last Wednesday for walks around the Paremata/Papakowhai area followed by coffee and a bite to eat at the Ngati Toa Domain. Our picnic was accompanied by a gentle Wellington breeze and was quickly dispatched by a light shower. On Thursday 7 walkers headed up the bush track above the roundabout in Grenada Village and on Friday Jane Gaudie led 12 walkers up into the mist at Belmont Trig, having entered the regional park from the Takapu Road entrance.
Please don't forget to review the new meeting arrangements for the Wednesday walks - see below.

Reminder
Please ensure that you inform your group’s leader if you leave a walk partway through.
This Week's Walks (Wednesday 21 February)
A reminder about new meeting point & time for the Wednesday walkers.
As a trial, over the next two months we are nominating the start time for each walk from the walk's starting point. This will factor in the estimated travel time for those who need to arrange transport from Churton Park at 9am. Consequently those requiring lifts and those offering lifts should either continue to meet amongst themselves at 9am or make arrangements in advance by swapping telephone numbers. To ensure that everyone has had an opportunity to make any arrangements we will be advising the new start time for each walk from this week, Wednesday 21 February. We would be pleased to receive any comments on this approach.
This Weeks Walks: The walks are all in the Johnsonville area. Walkers should assemble at the designated parking area (Alex Moore Park carpark on Bannister Avenue) and be ready to set off on your walk at 9:15am.
PP’s: A 4.05km loop taking in streets and a couple of underpasses in the main part of Johnsonville. There is a little bit of hill to climb with the majority of the walk on the flat. This is a new walk. You can see the walk here.
SS’s: A 6.27km loop around Johnsonville. It does include a couple of hills with the rest fairly flat. All on footpaths and tracks. This also is a new walk but parts will have been walked before. You can see the walk here.
FF’s: A 7.45km loop walk on tracks and footpaths. Includes hills. This is an old walk last carried out in the middle of 2023. You can see the walk in NZMapometer here and on PlotaRoute here.
Parking: Parking for all three groups is in the Alex Moore Park car park which is accessed off Bannister Avenue. (PS. Our usual Johnsonville parking area.)
Coffee: Where to go for coffee is walkers' choice. Simmer back home, Thyme in Middleton Rd, Common Ground in the Library or the Mall cafes. All are in the general area.
Enjoy your walks
