Sprig and Fern, 5th July.
This coming Friday 5th July sees us returning to Sprig and Fern for our monthly get-together over some food and drinks. Tables are reserved from 5pm and for those who wish to order early there is the Gold Card special menu available up to 5.30pm. See you there.
Last week’s walks.
The Wednesday walkers took advantage of clearing weather to complete a circuit around Titahi Bay. There were 57 walkers in total – another good turn-out. On Thursday 6 walkers, accompanied by Red, journeyed from Johnsonville to Newlands and then to Woodridge for a return trip of 7.5kms. Friday’s “Matariki” walk was really popular with 30 walkers going from Lyall Bay to Seatoun and return.
Our 11th Anniversary Dinner – 27th July.
Just four weeks to go! Thanks to all those who have already booked. Please book early and as usual it promises to be a fun night for all.

A reminder about walking arrangements:
After everyone has arrived at the starting location, each group should confirm its leader and also nominate a ‘tail-end Charlie’. Please remember the medical kits – there is at least one for each group – and a reminder to take photographs. These allow us to record that day’s walkers in each group. Please forward these by email.
Finally, just a reminder to swap telephone numbers amongst those with whom you travel to the starting point each week. A handy back-up for any late changes to arrangements.
Reminder: Please ensure that you inform your group’s leader if you leave a walk partway through.
Walk Details for Wednesday July 3rd 2024.
This Week's Walks: Not local this coming Wednesday, but then not that far away either. You will need to bring your Gold Card - or Snapper Card or cash. The walks are basically following the general route of the Johnsonville Line and returning to the start point by train. All walkers should be at the start point ready to start walking at 9:15am.
PPs: The PPs walk will start at Raroa Park and proceed along the main roads for qs far as the walkers decide. There is Khandallah Station at about 1.7km, Boxhill at 2.2km, Simla at 2.7km, Awarua at 3.6km, Ngaio at 4.2km and Crofton Downs at 4.9km. We hope the target is at least Ngaio. The return to the cars at Raroa Park is by train and the use of your Gold Card. With trains every ½ hour the average wait should be 15 minutes. You can see the overall walk here
SSs: A 5.74km one way walk starting at the parking at Raroa Park and proceeding by both side and back streets and also main roads all the way to Crofton Downs Station. The return to the cars at Raroa Park is by train and the use of your Gold Card. With trains every ½ hour the average wait should be 15 minutes. There is a coffee cart near to the station and a café in the nearby shopping area. You can see the walk here
FFs: A 7.47km walk that is on streets, tracks and roadway. Starts at the carpark at Nairnville Park and ends at Wellington Railway Station. The walks cut through back streets as well as using main roads. The return to the cars at Nairnville Park is by train and the use of your Gold Card. With trains every ½ hour the average wait should be 15 minutes. You can see the walk here on MapoMeter and on Plotaroute here
Parking: The parking for the PPs and SSs is at Raroa Park - off Burma Road opposite Onslow College. The parking for the FFs is Nairnville Park carpark in Khandallah.
Coffee: The PPs and SSs can either try out Chillax beside the Supermarket in Crofton Downs or return and find a café on the way home or Simmer back at home. Probably back at Simmer for the FFs.

Titahi Bay was the scene for our three Wednesday walks. The slightly threatening weather abated and conditions were good. Our photos this week are courtesy of Gay Hoffman (FF photo) and Paul Alpe (SS photo). See if you can spot the purple mitten in the FF shot - looks like somebody from Sesame Street might have hitched a ride!

Thank you to Gillian Mills for these photos of the group on Thursday. They walked around Newlands where I am told they went slightly off course. However a couple of Thursday's walkers attended the Friday walk (how keen is that!), so it seems that they did manage to find their way home.

Clint Davis organised a brilliant day for the Friday Matariki walk. He also organised for the traffic to be exceedingly light for our cross-town journey. You have set a very high bar, Clint! These first two photos of the two groups were taken by David Pegram and Gay Hoffman.
