Churton Park Community Walkers
Newsletter 10th August 2025
Last week:
After David extolled the good weather in last week's newsletter, things slipped a little this week as Friday's walkers were pemitted a sleep-in due to poor weather. But Wednesday had dawned with a good frost and clear skies and there were 4 PPs, 28 SSs in two groups and 24 FFs. Thursday's team of 6 were led out from Churton Park to Johnsonville and return by Red and their journey included investigations of "Sips and Smiles", the new café in Moorefield Road next to the ambulance base, and "Groom to Go", a dog groomers. All bases were covered!
I am pleased to include this photo of Brian and Pat Vincent sent from Woburn Forest near Bedford in England. Brian advised that they have been enjoying a few walks. I was a little concerned that I could not see either of Brian's arms - you might recall the unfortunate start to the Vincent's South American adventure! - but Brian reassured me that both arms are intact and working well.

David and Wayne departed for Canada earlier this week and have been enjoying walks in Montréal. As well as stretching their legs, they will both be exercising their brains as they adapt their French to Québécois to ensure that they order the correct local delicacies. Poutine anyone?

Walk Details for Wednesday 13th August 2025
This Week's Walks: It was proposed to walk in Kelburn. but a check on the available parking in the Glen area (as advised by David of PPs) confirmed that the walk needed to be shifted. So we have organised a walk where there is plenty of parking. Thus this week's walks have ended up in the Paremata/Mana area with the parking and start point at Ngati Toa Domain. Whilst we have started walks here several times before, an attempt has been made to vary these a little from previous walks for all three groups. The walks will start at 9:20am from the designated starting point.
PPs: A 4.31km loop walk which is completely flat. A little bit on one coast and a little bit on another bit of coast and the rest is in between. You can see the walk here.
SSs: A 5.98km loop which has a flat area along the coast to start and another flat walk to finish, but there is a fair bit of up and down between these two flat areas. It has some concrete walkways between streets and a path of good standard along the coast. You can see the walk here.
FFs: A 7.59km loop walk which, like the walk of the SSs, starts and finishes on the flat but has quite a few hills between. You can see the walk on Mapometer here and on Plotaroute here.
Parking: Parking is in Ngati Toa Domain. We have parked there many times before. Turn left off Mana Esplanade into Pascoe Avenue, cross the railway line and park at the first car parking area you come to.
Coffee: We will inform Columbus Coffee, Mitre 10 Mega, Porirua that a number of us will be coming for coffee and or a snack.
Happy walking.
Russell Paterson
