Walk Details for Wednesday 22nd January:
This Week's Walks: School is out and the varsity is closed and other commuters are still on holiday, so we will take the opportunity to carry out some walks on the other side of town, specifically Miramar. The schedule noted Maupuia, but it is a little difficult to find suitable parking there and so all walks are based in Miramar and start at Crawford Green which has ample street parking for all of us. If you prefer walks closer to home and do not want to look around the different suburbs of Wellington let us know through your representative on the walks committee and we can give this some consideration. (It is known that the FF’s have no concerns about exploring the suburbs of Wellington apart from dealing with the traffic.)
All walks are to start at 9:20am from the designated parking.
PPs: A 3.70km loop that is a more typical Wellington walk in that it includes some rises and a few steps. The rises and steps have been offset by a slightly shorter walk distance. You can see the walk here
SSs: A 5.01km walk that includes rises and a few steps with this once again being offset by a slightly shorter distance. You can see the walk here
FFs: A 5.82km loop walk that includes a few hills and tracks between streets. Most of the walk is on footpaths. Definitely some hills. You can see the walk on Mapometer here and on Plotaroute here
Parking: Crawford Green has street parking on the side of the road. Crawford Green surrounds Crawford Green Park and is accessed off Broadway and it is on the other side of the road and a little west of Scots College.
Coffee: Nothing has been booked, but there are plenty of cafes on the way home, including Simmer at Churton Park.

The first scheduled CPCW Wednesday walks went ahead in Titahi Bay/Onepoto this week despite gloomy weather at the outset. However, this quickly improved leaving good walking conditions. Numbers still a little low - time of the year and weather.
Thank you to Rosemary Mackintosh for this photo of the PPs - all two of them! Shows dedication.

The weather kept improving as the week progressed and the Friday walkers enjoyed a great day to venture out on a walk plotted by Clint Davis which took in part of the old "village" in Wainuiomata and then from suburbia and up into the bush on three different lots of tracks, including the steep climb on the Tana Umaga Track. Brought back memories of the climbs of one week earlier! Thanks to Gay Hoffman for this photo of the later group:

Just for Fun

This cartoon is amusing, but perhaps a little close to the bone (pun intended!) in these economic times.
