Well, 2021 has now begun and this is our first newsletter for this New Year. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year, and were lucky to spend it with or were able to communicate with family and friends over this time. We can only hope that we, as a walking group, have another successful year with few interruptions, good walking weather and of course, Covid-19 free. The various committees will continue to work hard to ensure this.
We are not usually in the habit of telling tales of others misfortune but over the holidays there have been a few incidents worth noting and that have come to my attention. Russell Paterson decided to test the sharpness of his newly obtained New World’s knife but not on a food item! His thumb; it did not end that well!!!!! But this pales when you consider the state of Gay Hoffman’s big toe. I won’t say too much about this incident except that it involves a ten pin bowling ball, a table and the offending toe on the floor beneath the table!!!! And now a moonboot!!!! What more can I say, except “ some mothers do ‘ave em”!
It was great to see so many turn out for our first drinks of the year at the Sprig and Fern, despite it being the second Friday of the month. Over thirty members enjoyed the evening, a higher number than we expected for this time of the year. We will revert back to the first Friday of the month for our next drinks.
This week, we look forward to all the walking groups starting up again after the short break over the holidays. Please remember that since the weather is warmer, it is important to stay hydrated before, during and after walking. We encourage you all to walk with a drink bottle, sunhat and of course wearing sunscreen.
Hope to see you on Wednesday, 9am at the southern end of the Churton Park New World’s carpark.
