Current Wednesday Walk

03 February 2021

Convenor’s Comment

Well it was a bit of a mixed bag this week weather wise and this is suppose to be summer!!!  Fortunately the sun shone brightly for our  Wednesday walk up the Te Whiti Riser followed by a very enjoyable picnic alongside the river bank. This “there and back” walk is a good trek, giving us all the opportunity to walk however far we are capable of walking on the day.  Unfortunately the Thursday evening walkers were not so fortunate with the weather and were forced to cancel while the Friday walkers, although starting off a tad wet and cold, continued to walk through the bush on the Eastbourne hills. There were a few withdrawals from this walk due to the earlier weather but they still had a good turnout of 23 hardy souls!!!  Thanks to Helen and Russell Paterson, Wendy and Graham Bentley and the usual leaders, for organising and leading the walks this week.

I missed a birthday last week.  So happy birthday Gayle Van Heerden.  Hope you had a wonderful day celebrating with your family and friends.  Also, this week Janice Ingold is celebrating a birthday.  Happy birthday Janice.  Hope you too have an enjoyable day.

Over the next few weeks, Russell Paterson will be in charge so if you have any queries, please direct them to him.

Drinks It’s February tomorrow so that means it is drinks on Friday night,  5 February.  Simmer CafĂ© is still not open in the evenings and so we will again gather at the Sprig and Fern in Tawa at 5pm.  Hope to see you all there.

Wednesday 3rd February 2021

General

The walks are all based in Titahi Bay.

PP’s:  A 3.41km mainly flat walk.  This is a repeat of Lynda’s Mural Walk.  You can view the walk here.

SS’s: A 6.46km walk that takes in a walk along the beach and a return through the streets of Titahi Bay.  You can view the walk here.

FF’s: A 7.52km walk is planned but this is also an exploratory walk to see if the tracks shown on Mapometer actually exist. Past walks have shown that the FF’s group can improvise when required and this maybe one of these walks.  You can view the walk here.

Parking

There are over twenty angle carparks where Bay Drive meets Richard Street near the beach in Titahi Bay.  So all being well there should be plenty of easy parking.

Coffee

Coffee for all three groups is at Columbia Coffee, Mitre 10 Mega, Porirua.

eBay is so useless. I tried to look up lighters and all they had was 13,749 matches.
