Current Wednesday Walk

24 February 2021

Convenor’s Comment

Well what a week. A return to Level 2 and difficult weather conditions were experienced again.  After a wild Tuesday, and a forecast of a windy Wednesday, it was decided late on Tuesday to change the walk from atop the Brooklyn hills to a more sheltered walk in Wilton Bush for the Pleasure Pacers and Steady Steppers while the Fast Footers walked through Trelissck Park and some streets in Wadestown.  It was a lovely walk and despite some rain while waiting to get started, the walk itself was fine and more importantly sheltered from that southerly wind.  Thanks to Russell and Helen Paterson for this walk and making the early call to change.  Also thanks to the leaders who undertook to lead these walks at such short notice.  I think that in the future these may be a good option to become the default walks when conditions are similar to what we experienced and shelter is required.  Fifty five people took part last Wednesday, a good number considering the conditions.  Seven Thursday walkers ascended Kau Kau on Thursday evening in what were perfect conditions and nineteen walkers took either to the Southern Walkway from Island Bay to the Wellington Railway Station or the much flatter coast walk to Lyall Bay and back. Like Thursday, the conditions were near perfect.  Thanks to Christine Binns and John Leonard for organising and leading these walks.

It is appreciated knowing that people are willing to step up whenever needed at all levels when organising this group, as convenor or leaders of the walk and anywhere in between. Thanks once again.

See you all on Wednesday in hopefully good weather conditions
