Current Wednesday Walk

24 March 2021

Convenor’s Comment

What a great week for walking with the weather conditions near perfect for all groups.  The Wednesday group ventured into the Spicer Forest to walk the tracks that would supposedly lead them past the famous Smurfs Corner but unfortunately not all groups followed the correct trails leading to this point of interest but did successfully find their way back and apparently enjoyed the walk they undertook.  The Thursday group did a local walk around the hills of Churton Park and the Friday group headed to the back of Waikanae to once again divide into two groups, one doing a scrambling climb up a hill and the other a lovely flatter walk through the bush.  The numbers of walkers this week  were 48, 6 and 14 respectively.  Thanks to Helen and Russell Paterson, Christine Binns and Keith Thomas for organising the walks this week.

I missed a couple of birthdays over the last few weeks so I would like to acknowledge belatedly the birthdays of Russell Paterson and Nina Goff.  We do hope you had a wonderful day.

This Wednesday, the Mana Island trip is due to be undertaken and we hope that those attending  enjoy this opportunity organised for them.  Thanks to Brian Alderson for all his work done on this day trip.  For those not attending, there will be a walk organised around Churton Park for all levels.

Monthly Drinks

As many of our regular attendees to our monthly drinks are away and some without access to emails, we have extended the deadline for this until Friday this coming week. If you have not yet voted, and would like to take the opportunity to have your say please email your choice by Friday 26 March.  T hanks to the few who have already voted but we would like more of a representation of our group to voice their opinion on this matter before the final decision is made by the incoming committee.

There are three options from which to choose.

  • Simmer CafĂ©
  • Sprig and Fern
  • Month about i.e one month at Sprig and Fern and the second month at Simmer

Wednesday 24th March 2021

General

All walks are local.  All going to plan the majority of walkers should be on Mana Island. Three walks are listed below to allow for the cancellation (unlikely) of the Mana Island trip.  If the groups wish they can make up a local route of their own as an alternative to those supplied.  Also if low numbers the SS’s and FF’s could combine.

PP’s: A 3.28km loop taking in the walkways, parks and footpaths within Churton Park.  You can view the walk here.

SS’s: A 6.27km loop taking in the walkways, parks and footpaths within Churton Park.  You can view the walk here.

FF’s: A 7.96km loop taking in the walkways, parks and footpaths within Churton Park and Johnsonville.  You can view the walk here.

Parking

Parking:  Far (SE) corner of New World (Churton Park) carpark and on Lakewood Drive.
