Convenor’s Comment

Friday “Drinkies”

Over twenty enjoyed Friday night Drinkies at the Sprig and Fern, Tawa.  We will be back at Simmer for Friday Night Drinkies come the first Friday in May.

Alison’s Corner

No birthdays or other special events to note this week.  Again we trust that anyone who had a special day that we do not know about did indeed have an enjoyable day.

Newsletter/Website

If there is anyone who would like to be involved from time to time as a back up for Peter Nalder, then we would love to hear from you.  Peter does a great job and is happy to continue.  However he does, like others, go on holiday now and then and although he has always managed to get the newsletter out when away it would be great to be able to let him have his holidays in peace without having to collate the newsletter and put in on the web.  If you are interested in adding a new skill to your CV contact Peter.  Previous experience in web editing is not necessary.

The Walks

There were no weather interruptions to the planned walks this week.  12 PP’s, 31 SS’s and 17 FF’s made their way around Johnsonville.  On Thursday 6 walkers walked somewhere in Tawa and on Friday 13 walkers explored some different ways to get to the top of Mt Kaukau and down again.

Cancellations

To better align with my lifestyle cancellation emails if required will go out a bit later than before but no later than 8:00am.  To avoid disappointing those that are happy to walk in marginal conditions from now on the cancellation will be either; a) the walk is cancelled and have a coffee at Simmer; or b) Conditions are marginal and those that still are considering to walk meet at 9:00am to either head off for the walk or if they change their mind, head to Simmer for coffee.

Enjoy your walks.

Photos

Here are some photos from last week.  Walkers please try and take a photo of each group on walking days and email them to peter@jville.kiwi preferably small size (around 450kb).

Walk Schedules

You can look at the walk schedule for the rest of April here.

Wednesday 14th April 2021

General

This weeks walks are all based in Whitby.  The SS’s is a repeat of a walk carried out in September 2019, the PP’s walk is also a walk previously used in September 2019 but with a variation to take in a bit more of the Whitby Lakes and the FF’s have a completely revised walk as the previous walk from 2019 was cut off by Transmission Gully Roadworks.

PP’s: A 3.45km loop using tracks and footpaths.  You can view the walk here.

SS’s: A 6.13km loop using tracks and footpaths.  You can view the walk here.

FF’s: A 7.65km loop using tracks and footpaths.  You can view the walk here.

Parking

This is in the Bowling Club carpark off Discovery Drive and directly opposite the Whitby Village shopping area.  We have parked in this area several times before.

Coffee

Compass in Mitre 10 Mega have been warned that we will be coming there for coffee.  Should that be overloaded, there is backup at Kaizen in Pataka, Peppermill and of course Simmer back at Churton Park.
