Current Wednesday Walk

Convenor’s Comment

Last Weeks Walks

All three Wednesday walks were located in Aotea with the SS’s and FF’s taking in parts of Bothamley Park as well.  A good total of 59 walkers attended with this being made up of 16 PP’s, 26 SS’s and 17 FF’s.  The Thursday walkers this week were back nearer to their usual numbers with 5 walkers taking in the sights around the streets of Churton Park.  On Friday a record number of 27 Friday Walkers gathered together in Te Whiti Park and headed up into the Hutt’s Eastern Hills and back to the cars via the Te Whiti Riser track.

Future Events

We have looked around to find a suitable venue to once again have our Devonshire Tea event.  (Beach House have stopped using their room out the back; so this venue was not available).  However Benedict’s Café in Maungaraki are willing to host this event.  This is a large venue that should be able to cope as long as we stagger the arrivals.  The cost for a hot drink and scone will be $8 and the event (and a revised walk) will be inserted in the May walk schedule for the 19th of May.  More details will be noted in next weeks report.

The Anniversary Dinner is another future event that also will be the subject of more information in coming reports.  This is likely to be the last Friday in July or the first Friday in August.

General

With Alistair taking a break from looking after our finances we sought to open a bank account in the name of the Walking Group.  This was not as simple as you would think but the persistence of Keith Thomas meant that we now have our own account and will not need to use personal accounts for dealing with the payments for future events etc.  Details of the account will be noted in the next report relating to payments for the Devonshire Teas.

Enjoy your walks.

General

All three Wednesday’s walks are based in Silverstream with both the SS’s and the PP’s walks a repeat of walks from 2 or 3 years ago.  The FF’s is a variation of one of these older walks.  Both the SS’s and FF’s take in a few streets in Stokes Valley as well.  The three walks have different parking arrangements.

PP’s: A flat 4.60km loop using tracks and footpaths.   You can view the walk here.

Parking is in Fergusson Drive and Barton Road which is a side street off Fergusson Drive.  This area is dead opposite the Fig Tree Café.

SS’s: A 6.42km with a loop using tracks and footpaths but requiring a there and back first km or two.  You can view the walk here.

Parking is in the Golf Driving Range carpark which is in County Lane which is the first left off Fergusson Drive once you turn off the Motorway.

FF’s: A 8.59km loop using tracks and footpaths.  Good shoes probably required for the track.  You can view the walk here.

Parking is in a carpark about 100m up Reynolds Bach Drive which is the landfill access road coming off the Eastern Hutt Road.

Coffee

Columbus Café in Mitre 10 Mega, Petone,  has been told that we will be returning there and they will reserve some space.  There are other choices on the way home if Columbus Café is overcrowded, including going back to Simmer.

Cancellation

If required will be by email at 8:00am.

Kids today don't know how easy they have it... when I was young, I  had to walk over 9 feet of shag pile carpet to change the TV channel.
