Current Wednesday Walk

19 May 2021

Convenor’s Comment

Alison’s Corner

Happy Birthday to John Leonard.   John has had a small break from walking but we are looking forward to having him back.  Melanie Murray, a Thursday Walker is also having a birthday.  Trust John and Melanie have a good special day and the same to any others that have been missed.

Last Weeks Walks

The weather put paid to the Wednesday walks.  There was a good turnout however for the 9:00am coffee at Simmer Café. We will have another go at heading up Wainui Hill next month.  Thursday’s weather was much improved allowing 5 Thursday Walkers to head around the streets of Churton Park and Johnsonville.  The Friday Walkers headed out to frost covered grassed areas after the interesting drive up Horokiwi Road.  Several of the 16 walkers complained about cold hands and after crossing a creek a few times; then cold feet.  However the cold air ensured very good views from the ridge lines etc.

Devonshire Tea

Remember the Devonshire Tea walks will be held this coming Wednesday!! (that is Wednesday 19th May 2021.)  We have had a good response.  If you wish to take part in the Devonshire Tea part of the walk then we need to be informed either by email or you can telephone Helen Paterson on 478 0206.  Deadline is Monday morning 17th of May.   The price is $8 per person with this including a hot drink and a scone.  The money should also be paid to the following account by  Monday morning 17th May 2021.

Churton Park Community Walkers - 02-0524-0233091-000 - Please reference your name.

If for some really bad weather reason the walks are cancelled the Devonshire Tea will still go ahead.  The cancellation notice, if it needs to be sent, will clarify Café start times etc.  If the walks go ahead as planned the Devonshire Tea is immediately after your walk.  The three walks and the Devonshire Tea are all in Maungaraki.

Future Event

The date has been set as Saturday Evening 31st July 2021 for our Mid Winter Anniversary Dinner.  Please diary the date and see if you can keep the date clear.

Enjoy your walks.
