Alison’s Corner

No birthdays are recorded for the coming week.  Again if there is anyone having a special day or event in the coming week we trust that they have a very enjoyable day.

Friday Night "Drinkies"

Remember that this month this social occasion is at Sprig & Fern in Tawa from 5:00pm onwards. (Friday 4th June) All welcome.

Last Weeks Walks

These walks were held in sunny Lyall Bay.  There were certainly no strong southerlies and no need to even think about cancellations.  The weather was in fact perfect for a walk along the southern shores of our city.  There were even surfers to watch!  Most of the group headed to Spruce Goose for coffee and this time it was the turn of the Fast Footers to wonder where their scones and coffee had gone to.  However everyone seemed to enjoy the walks and their visit to Spruce Goose even those that had to wait quite awhile.  Good company and patience are in plentiful supply in our groups so a little wait for service doesn’t really matter at all.

There were 17 PP’s, 27 SS’s and 18 FF’s for a total of 62.  On Thursday night we had 4 walkers roaming the Churton Park streets and on Friday we had 22 walking from Upper Hutt to Petone, a distance of 21kms. Good weather seems to mean good high numbers of walkers.

Mid Winter Anniversary Dinner

The date has been set as Saturday Evening 31st July 2021.  We are sure that we can keep the cost to $40 a head.   A  formal invitation will be sent out in a separate email this coming week and we will need a response sooner rather than later (not the $40) as the approximate numbers are needed by the Johnsonville Bowling Club for the Liquor Licence application.  So keep an eye out for the invitation email sometime this coming week. Hopefully we can get a good turnout similar to last year.

Enjoy your walks.

Wednesday 2nd June 2021

General

“John’s Wainui Hill Challenge” was cancelled last month but these walks are back on as the first walks of June.  (We are now trying to leave the odd gap in our preplanned walk schedules to allow for any cancelled walk being rescheduled rather than forgotten.)  The Wainui Hill Challenge is for both the SS’s and the FF’s walks.  The SS’s go up the hill; take in the great views and the relaxing seat, cross the bridge for no real reason and then head back again.  (For the really keen and depending on the weather of the day, John may have a variation in mind.)  The walk does have a flat warm up section first.  The FF’s also head up the Wainui Hill but the walk is a loop starting at Point Howard.  The PP’s get a shoreline flat walk that can be shortened or lengthened as required.   Unfortunately all three walks have different parking arrangements.

PP’s: A flat 3.66km there and back using tracks and footpaths.  Can be extended or shortened.  You can view the walk here.

Parking is in Port Road just a little bit west of the boat ramp. This is just along the road from Compass Café.

SS’s: A 5.28km there and back up the Wainui Hill.  You can view the walk here.

Parking is in Gracefield Road outside or near to a building that is up for Lease at 138 – 150 Gracefield Road. This is also opposite the Dulux Factory.

FF’s: A 7.76km loop using tracks and footpaths and taking in the Wainui Hill.  You can view the walk here.

Parking is in the carpark at the entrance to Point Howard Wharf.

Coffee

We have not booked but Columbus Café in Mitre 10 Mega, Petone, can cope with most of us especially if our entry is a little bit staggered.  Other cafés nearby are Compass and Small Batch.

Cancellation

If required will be by email at 8:00am.

A thief broke into my house last night, and started searching for  money.  I got up, and searched with him.
