Convenor’s Comment

Alison’s Corner

Two birthdays are recorded for this coming week; both towards the end of the week.  One is our ex convenor Alison Lavin and the other FF walker Mervyn Page.  Trust they enjoy their special day and the same for any others we have no record of.    (Assistance to update and complete our records of such events is welcome by email.)

Friday Night Drinkies

This Friday coming is the first Friday of the month and so it is the night for  Friday Night Drinkies.  The venue this month is Simmer in Churton Park with the starting time being 5:00pm.

Last Weeks Walks

Last weeks walks centred around the new medium density housing development that, along with a neighbouring Retirement Village, is taking over most of the grounds of the old Porirua Hospital Complex.  These walks were reasonably well attended with 13 PP’s, 27 SS’s and 19 FF’s making up a total of 59 walkers.  Thursday night’s reasonable weather encouraged 4 walkers to head around the streets of Tawa and on Friday some 20 Friday Walkers completed a rather up and down and large loop around Mt Victoria and the surrounding Town Belt.  The walk included a short stop to take in the recently established Anne Frank Memorial.

This weeks walks are all based in Mana, and take in bits of Cambourne, Plimmerton and Paremata.  The walks are in areas that have been used before but all walks are newly made up.

PP’s: A 4.30km loop walk that does include the Plimmerton shops and is generally flat.  The walks is on footpaths and good quality tracks.   You can view the walk here.

SS’s: A 5.92km loop walk that includes some hills in the Cambourne area with the rest being on the flat.  An overbridge allows for a safe crossing of SH1.   You can view the walk here.

FF’s: A 7.46km loop on footpaths and good quality tracks taking in a “good set of steps” and some of Cambourne’s Hills.    You can view the walk here.

Parking for all three groups is within Ngati Toa Domain with the SS’s and PP’s parking in the area nearest to the park entrance and the FF’s close by but up in the carpark nearby the station.  Ngati Toa Domain is accessed at the end of Pascoe Avenue which is the second left after crossing the Paremata Bridge on State Highway 1.

Coffee

Columbus Coffee in Mitre 10 Mega, Porirua has been booked for coffee.  Alternatives within Porirua are available should this be overcrowded.

Cancellation

If required will be by email at 8:00am.

Enjoy your walks.

Koha

Remember that if you rely on others for your transport most weeks then a small $2 payment for a nearby walk and a $4 payment for a longer walk would help to lessen the costs a little for those providing the transport.

Laugh
