Convenor’s Comment

Alison’s Corner

No birthdays or special events to report for this coming week.  Should anyone be missed we trust that they have an enjoyable special day.  Assistance to update and complete our records of such events is welcome by email.

Last Weeks Walks

The walkers congregated at the New World Carpark under a very cloudy sky and with a biting northerly breeze.  So predictably numbers were down with all the “Fair Weather Walkers” staying home.  Looking South the sky looked clearer so the congregated walkers headed off to Seatoun to meet up with some additional walkers and to find a warm sunny day.  In fact the south coast weather was near perfect for the walks that were enjoyed by the 40 that turned up.  Thursday night saw 4 Thursday Night Walkers heading around the streets of Churton Park and 26 Friday Walkers carried out a couple of loops based on the Miramar Peninsula and extending all the way to Seatoun.

Walk Schedules

You can look at the walk schedule for the rest of July here.

Wednesday 14th July 2021
General

All three walks are set in the Lower Hutt area of Avalon.  All walks are basically flat and either on good quality tracks or footpaths.  All are walks used in the past.  The FF’s old walk has been reversed.

PP’s: A 5.90km loop heading out up a road and a park track and then back via a river bank track.  You can view the walk here.

SS’s: A 7.53km loop that heads out through the streets of Avalon, Wingate and Taita and back via the riverbank track.    You can view the walk here.

FF’s: A 9.20km that heads out up the riverbank track and back through the Taita, Wingate and Avalon suburbs.  You can view the walk here.

Parking

Parking for all three groups is in the Avalon Park carpark.  Plenty of room for all. Turn right off State Highway 2 into Fairway Drive just immediately after the Kelson Turnoff.  The car park entrance is a short distance down Fairway Drive.

Coffee

Coffee:  We have told Columbus Coffee in Petone’s Mitre 10 Mega that we will be coming for coffee.  They generally cope with our numbers quite well.

Cancellation

If required will be by email at 8:00am.

Enjoy your walks.

Koha

Remember that if you rely on others for your transport most weeks then a small $2 payment for a nearby walk and a $4 payment for a longer walk would help to lessen the costs a little for those providing the transport.

Laugh

My goal for 2021 was to lose 20 pounds .. only 25 to go.
