Convenor’s Comment

Alison’s Corner

Only the one birthday for this week and that is one of our regular walkers John Holloway.  We trust that he has an enjoyable special day.

Last Weeks Walks

Last Wednesday’s weather did not encourage walking but a good number turned out for our walks up the side of the Hutt River and back through some of the Lower Hutt suburbs; or the reverse of that.  15 PP’s turned up, 22 SS’s and 18 FF’s making a grand total of 55 walkers.  The weather in Lower Hutt turned out to be quite a bit better than Churton Park and all walks were carried out in pleasant conditions.  Columbus CafĂ© in Mitre 10 Mega Petone also looked after us very well with very prompt service.  The Thursday night walkers were down on numbers this week with only two walkers heading around the Churton Park streets but the Friday Walkers had a reasonable turnout with 17 walkers taking on a fairly long walk within the inner city’s suburbs.

Walk Schedules

You can look at the walk schedule for the rest of July here.

Wednesday 21st July 2021
General

All three walks are set in Petone and are walks from last year.  Like last week all walks are basically flat and either on good quality tracks or footpaths.

PP’s: A 5.47km loop heading out up the golf course stop bank and then back through some of the Petone Suburbs.  You can view the walk here.

SS’s: A 7.35km loop that is up the left bank of the Hutt River, across the Ewen Bridge and then back down the right bank.  All good tracks.  You can view the walk here.

FF’s: A 8.40km loop that heads up the right bank of the Hutt River and then into Alicetown, over the Ewen Bridge and back via the left bank.  You can view the walk here.

Parking

Parking for all three groups is in Marine Parade.  Please park nearer to the Hutt River end of the street.  There should be plenty of parking.  ( Head along The Esplanade.  Then The Esplanade becomes Waione Street.  Continue on and then turn right into Kirkcaldy Street.  There is a turning lane for this turn;  and then turn left into Marine Parade.  The Gull Petrol Station is on the corner of Waione and Kirkcaldy Streets.)

Coffee

We have told Columbus Coffee in Petone’s Mitre 10 Mega that we will be coming for coffee.  They generally cope with our numbers quite well.

Cancellation

If required will be by email at 8:00am.

Enjoy your walks.

Koha

Remember that if you rely on others for your transport most weeks then a small $2 payment for a nearby walk and a $4 payment for a longer walk would help to lessen the costs a little for those providing the transport.

Laugh

What do you call a pig with laryngitis? Disgruntled.
