Convenor’s Comment

Alison’s Corner

Again only the one birthday for this week.  That is Toni Finkle. We trust that Toni has an enjoyable special day.

Friday Drinkies:

Remember that next Friday is the first Friday of the month.  Therefore it is “Drinkies” night.  It is the turn for this to be held at Sprig & Fern, Tawa.  Sprig & Fern have also become one of our Sponsors for our Anniversary Dinner.

Mid Winter 8th Anniversary Dinner

At the time of writing this, the Anniversary Dinner is still to happen and by the time you get this report the Dinner is over.  So I trust all that attended enjoyed the night.  There were to be lots of raffle prizes from the Sponsors and at least about 1/6 of you should have won a prize.

Last Weeks Walks

Our walks in decent weather around the streets of Crofton Downs, Ngaio or Wadestown went well for all with some of the SS’s finding a quicker route back to the start.  There were some comments about some steep steps but the wiser walkers saw a way to avoid these and still get back to the cars.  The parking did create a problem though with some of the Construction Traffic finding it extremely tight to get through between the two rows of cars.  Thus we will not be using this street again for all groups at any one time.  An effort has always been made to get all three groups to park in the one place; however with areas where the parking is limited we may have to park at least one of the larger groups in a separate area.  This problem will not occur for this weeks walks as there is plenty of car parking room.

Photos

Here are some photos from last week.  Walkers please try and take a photo of each group on walking days and email them to peter@jville.kiwi preferably small size (around 450kb).

Walk Schedules

You can look at the walk schedule for the rest of August here.

Wednesday 4th August 2021
General

This weeks walks are based in Paremata.  These are all new walks.  The PP’s get a there and back walk taking in the colourful boat sheds on the edge of the Pauatahanui Inlet, the SS’s head back towards Wellington, over the SH1 walking bridge and into Paremata and then through the Paremata streets coming out near an underpass under Paremata Road and then back along the beach to Pascoe Street and then the cars; and for the FF’s a similar but in reverse walk which heads a little deeper into the streets of Paremata.

PP’s: A 4.47km there and back taking in the Pauatahanui Inlet boat sheds.  The walk can be extended or shortened.  The walk is on good tracks or footpaths.  You can view the walk here.

SS’s: A 5.86km loop into and out of the streets of Paremata.  The walk is a little shorter than usual but there are a few hills within the suburb.  Some on tracks but mostly footpaths.  You can view the walk here.

FF’s: A 8.57km loop that also heads into the Paremata streets using tracks and footpaths.  You can view the walk here.

Parking

Parking for all three groups is within Ngati Toa Domain.  Turn left into Pascoe Avenue and find a car park once you are into the Domain. (Pascoe Avenue is second on the left after crossing Paremata Bridge and is controlled by lights.)

Coffee

We have told Columbus Coffee, Porirua that we will be coming for coffee.

Cancellation

If required will be by email at 8:00am.

Enjoy your walks.

Koha

Remember that if you rely on others for your transport most weeks then a small $2 payment for a nearby walk and a $4 payment for a longer walk would help to lessen the costs a little for those providing the transport.

Laugh

The Grim Reaper came for me last night, and I beat him off with a vacuum cleaner.  Talk about Dyson with death.
