Current Wednesday Walk

Convenor’s Comment

General

With the current Delta Variant trying to creep out of Auckland, there have been some concerns raised within the walking group mainly in respect of sharing car rides.  So to keep all happy and without creating a huge issue we would ask that if you have not been vaccinated to ask the people sharing the ride whether they have any concerns about sharing with you.  Otherwise the solution is to take your own vehicle.  The cafés that we use are open to the public as well and so this is everyone’s own choice as whether to enter these.  Our walks are in Wellington and therefore are in a well ventilated area and should be of no concern.

Alison’s Corner

No birthdays or special days recorded for this coming week.  If there is anyone who has a special event that we do not have recorded, then we do trust that you have an enjoyable special day.

Christmas Lunch

Christmas is coming around sooner rather than later.  The Pines is booked for Christmas lunch on Wednesday 24th November.  The price will be under $40 per person and the bus transportation will be organised again at a probable cost of $10 or less per person.  Pines are after our deposit, so we need to know that at least 50 are coming before we pay the deposit.  (Should we end up in Level 3 or 4 then there is a full refund for us.)  Thus we would like know rough numbers by Friday 15th October.   So if you are relatively sure you will be coming please email us.  A further notice will let you know when your payment is due.  We trust that all those wishing to attend will have been fully vaccinated by the time of the advent.

Last Weeks Walks

In the future we will know not to go to Greater Wellington Regional parks before Labour Weekend.  By then all the little lambs will have grown up a bit and we will be welcome to share the paddocks with them.  Anyway we all managed to get a good walk in and enjoyed the favourable weather.  Almost all walkers stayed behind to enjoy the after walk picnic.  We did note that the local coffee bar was closed for Level 2 and so the after walk picnic was a good decision.

Photos

Here are some photos from from last week.  Walkers please try and take a photo of each group on walking days and email them to peter@jville.kiwi preferably small size (around 450kb).  This week we are spoiled for choice.  The rest of the photos can be seen via this link.

Walk Schedules

You can look at the walk schedule for the rest of October here.

General

This weeks walks for the SS’s and the FF’s head into some of Wilton’s suburban streets and use a return back along a bush surrounded track from the Otari Wilton’s Bush to the parking in Ian Galloway Park.  The PP’s go into the bush first and return along a street.

PP’s:  A 3.52km loop walk starting with using a bush track and returning along the street. The walk is reasonably flat.  You can view the walk here.

SS’s:  A 5.75km walk into the Wilton suburban streets with a return back through a part of the Otari Wilton’s Bush.  You can view the walk here.

FF’s:  A 6.85km walk into the Wilton suburban streets with a return back through a part of the Otari Wilton’s Bush; similar to the SS’s walk but just a little bit longer.  You can view the walk here.

Parking

All groups.  Parking is at Ian Galloway Park where there is more than ample parking for all of us.

Coffee

Picnic Again!   The parking is beside a park and if the weather is suitable and a spot out of the wind can be found; then we will have a picnic at the end of the walk.  So bring your own coffee or tea etc and a rug and or seat.   Should the weather make this a little uncomfortable then there is the odd coffee bar on the way home and of course Simmer in Churton Park.

Cancellation

The normal cancellation before 8:00am will be sent by email if required.

We are still walking under Level 2 so remember to scan in and try for a little bit of social distancing.

Happy walking

Koha

Remember that if you rely on others for your transport most weeks then a small $2 payment for a nearby walk and a $4 payment for a longer walk would help to lessen the costs a little for those providing the transport.

Laugh

Just so everyone's clear,  I'm going to put my glasses on.
