Current Wednesday Walk

10 February 2021

Convenor’s Comment

Again a very good turnout for our regular Wednesday Walk.  A total of 69 walkers set off either along the beach or along the streets of Titahi Bay.  The 15 Pleasure Pacers hopefully checked out the street murals and the 32 Steady Steppers and the 22 Fast Footers checked out some new tracks.   Unfortunately all arrived back at the carpark at a similar time meaning a long queue in the nominated Coffee Cafe 10 minutes later.   We trust that all enjoyed the walks.  The Thursday walkers took on the windy conditions with a walk in Tawa but were down to 4 of the hardier walkers.  Friday walkers were out in good numbers this Friday with 23 taking on a steep ascent up a ridge in the Keith George Memorial Park (in Silverstream) and then onto some less testing areas of the Reserve.  This was new territory for most of the walkers.

Happy birthday to Peter Bushnell and John Howard who celebrated their birthdays this past week and to Janice Ingold and Sylvia Mellor who are celebrating their birthdays this coming week.  Hope you all had / have a wonderful day .

Wednesday 10th February 2021

General

The walks committee have for some time been looking to find some new walks in Upper Hutt,  However so far no new walks have been created and instead three walks last used a few years back are listed for this next Wednesday’s walks.

As the parking for the three walks is within a park which makes a suitable spot for a picnic and also because we would overload any cafe in the Upper Hutt area we have decided that yes, we would have another summer picnic.  Please bring a seat or rug and a coffee and perhaps a snack.  Should the weather not play its part, or picnics are not your thing, then please make your own coffee arrangements this week.  There are quite a few coffee choices on the way back to CP.

All walks are based in Birchville, Upper Hutt.

PP’s:  A flat 4.70km walk out through the streets of Birchville and back along the bank of the Hutt River.  You can view the walk here.

SS’s:  A flat 6.73 km also out through the streets of Birchville and back along the bank of the Hutt River.  You can view the walk here.

FF’s:  A 7.93km walk similar but further afield than the SS’s.  You can view the walk here.

Parking

All three groups have the same carparking.  This is in Harcourt Park.  Turn off SH2 into Akatarawa Road (at the Brown Owl Hotel) and then take the first left into Harcourt Park where there is a carpark at the end of the short road.

Coffee

As it is summer and we would have trouble finding a Cafe in Upper Hutt that can handle our group we have decided we will have another “picnic in the park” this week.  So please bring a chair or rug, coffee and perhaps a snack.  If the weather is unsuitable for a picnic then own arrangements can be made on the day.

eBay is so useless. I tried to look up lighters and all they had was 13,749 matches.
