Convenor’s Comment

Alison’s Corner

It was noted by one of our walkers that the Newsletter from a group called Pacific Pathways had made a special mention of the work Jan Jones of our Pleasure Pacers does for the people of the Pacific. Jan for a few years has been collecting books and sending them on to the various Pacific islands. Also worth mentioning is that Gayle van Heerden of the Fast Footers recently was first woman home in a walking Marathon in a time of near 6 hours. Good work Gayle! One birthday was missed last week, that was Wendy Bentley. We trust she had a enjoyable special day. This week it is the turn of Susan Butcher. We trust Susan and anyone we do not know about does indeed have an enjoyable special day.

Last Weeks Walks

All three walks were carried out in Khandallah. The great views of Wellington that some of the walks allowed for were thwarted by the low mist that had not yet lifted. Also for some of the walkers the walks covered new territory that wasn’t really that far from roads that they have driven around many times. There is probably many other walks that can be planned for this nearby area. The PP’s had 8 walkers, the SS’s had 28 walkers and the FF’s 22 making a total of 58. Another good turn out. On Thursday the numbers were down to 2 and on Friday 13 walkers carried out a hill loop walk starting and finishing in Churton Park.

Enjoy your walks.

General

All walks this week are repeats of walks carried out last year. The PP’s is relatively short but the walkers could readily add in a bit extra and have a look around a few extra streets if they so wish. The SS’s and the FF’s both have walks that take in Bothamley Park, but both enter and leave from different points.

PP’s: A 2.89km loop using tracks and footpaths.  You can view the walk here.

SS’s: A  5.26km loop using tracks and footpaths.  You can view the walk here.

FF’s: A 7.54km loop using tracks and footpaths.  You can view the walk here.

Parking

Parking is in our usual Aotea spot; that is in Okowai Road, outside Gear Homestead and opposite Aotea College.

Coffee

Columbus Café in Mitre 10 Mega, Porirua, has been told that we will be returning there and they will reserve some space. There are other choices on the way home if Columbus Café is overcrowded including going back to Simme.

Cancellation

If required will be by email at 8:00am.

A recent study has found women who carry a little extra weight live longer than men who mention it.
