Alison’s Corner

Congratulations to Mervyn and Dianne Page who celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on Saturday. A great achievement!  Having a birthday on Wednesday is Greg O’Connor; trust he gets some time to enjoy the day. To anyone missed we trust you also have an enjoyable special day.

Last Weeks Walks

All three Wednesday walks were located in Silverstream with the PP’s doing a circuit around the outside of the Royal Wellington Golf Course. The SS’s and FF’s headed up the hill near the Hutt City Landfill entrance, utilising a road that used to be a track and then onto a track and down into Stokes Valley and returning to the cars via a riverside track and roads.  A good total of 61 walkers attended with this being made up of 13 PP’s, 27SS’s and 21 FF’s. The Thursday walkers this week had 5 walkers again taking in the sights around the streets of Churton Park.  On Friday 18 walkers attended Wendy’s mystery walk which ended up taking in quite a bit of Korokoro and Maungaraki.

Future Event

As had been noted in a separate email, Wednesday’s 19th May’s walks are to incorporate a Devonshire Tea.  Benedict’s Café in Maungaraki are willing to host us for this event.  If you wish to take part in the Devonshire Tea part of the walk then we need to be informed either by email or you can telephone Helen Paterson on 478 0206.  Deadline is Monday 17th of May.   The price is $8 per person with this including a hot drink and a scone.  The money should be paid to the following account.

Alternatively you can put the money in a named envelope and pass this to Helen or Keith.  Again the deadline is Monday 17th of May.

General

All three Wednesday’s walks are based in Seaview.  John Holloway has requested a Wainui Hill Challenge and this is it for both the SS’s and the FF’s walks.  The SS’s go up the hill; take in the great views and the relaxing seat, cross the bridge for no real reason and then head back again.  The walk does have a flat warm up section first. The FF’s also head up the Wainui Hill but the walk is a loop starting at Point Howard.  The PP’s get a shoreline flat walk that can be shortened or lengthened as required.   Unfortunately all three walks have different parking arrangements.

PP’s: A flat 3.66km there and back using tracks and footpaths.  Can be extended or shortened.  You can view the walk here.

Parking is in Port Road just a little bit west of the boat ramp. This is just along the road from Compass Café.

SS’s: A 5.28km there and back up the Wainui Hill.  You can view the walk here.

Parking is in Gracefield Road outside a building that is up for Lease at 138 – 150 Gracefield Road. This is also opposite the Dulux Factory.

FF’s: A 7.76km loop using tracks and footpaths and taking in the Wainui Hill.  You can view the walk here.

Parking is in the carpark at the entrance to Point Howard Wharf.

Coffee

We have not booked but Columbus Café in Mitre 10 Mega, Petone, can cope with most of us especially if our entry is a little bit staggered.  Other cafés nearby are Compass and Small Batch.

Cancellation

If required will be by email at 8:00am.

Remember back when we were kids, and every time it was below zero outside, they closed the school?  Me neither.
