Convenor’s Comment

Alison’s Corner

This week Kevin Cook is having a special birthday and Stuart Lavin is also having a birthday but his is not a significant number.  Stu might think otherwise.  Trust they and any others enjoy their special day.   (Assistance to update and complete our records of such events is welcome by email.)

Last Weeks Walks

Last weeks walks in the Otari Wilton area were well attended.  We understand that the parking was a bit of a problem for all three groups apart from the early arrivals.  This week should be a lot better.  The walks were well attended with 14 PP’s, 36 SS’s and 18 FF’s making up a total of 70; which is one of our larger turn outs.  Thursday had a turn out of 2 hardy walkers and Friday had 16 walking a loop of Pauatahanui Inlet.

John Waters who walked with both the FF’s and the Friday Walkers whilst stuck in New Zealand has now returned to France.  He sent an email to the Friday Walkers thanking them for their company and making him feel so welcome.  He obviously enjoyed his time walking with our groups.

Mid Winter 8th Anniversary Dinner

Walk Schedules

You can look at the walk schedule for the rest of June here.

Wednesday 23rd June 2021
General

The  three walks are older routes that were updated by Gay some months back and there has been an extension for the FF’s to add in some more interesting streets and to ensure the SS’s are not beaten to the Coffee queues.

PP’s:  A 4.03km walk that is a there and back that includes a large loop. All reasonably flat.  You can view the walk here.

SS’s:  A 5.67km walk that is also there and back and also includes a large loop.  Again all reasonably flat.  You can view the walk here.

FF’s:  A 7.77km loop on footpaths etc.  All reasonably flat.  Gays work has been extended to take in some of an old State housing area.  You can view the walk here.

Parking

Parking for all three groups is in the carpark in Gee Street. Turn off Tawa’s Main Road between the two sports fields.  There are 21 delineated carparks and plenty of street parking around the corner in Findlay Street.

Coffee

Nothing has been booked but there is Columbus Coffee in Mitre 10 Mega just up the road a bit and there is Gloria Jeans Coffee in Outlet City (the old DressMart) and also the Borough.  Also there is always Simmer.

Cancellation

If required will be by email at 8:00am.

Enjoy your walks.

Koha

Remember that if you rely on others for your transport most weeks then a small $2 payment for a nearby walk and a $4 payment for a longer walk would help to lessen the costs a little for those providing the transport.

Laugh

I went to the cemetery yesterday to lay some flowers on a grave. As I was standing there I noticed 4 grave diggers walking about with a coffin, 3 hours later and they're still walking about with it. I thought to myself, they've lost the plot!!
