Alison’s Corner

Only the one birthday for this week and that is Maree Goodall. We trust that Maree has an enjoyable special day.

Mid Winter 8th Anniversary Dinner

The Dinner is coming up next Saturday.  6pm or thereabouts is the start time.  Your name tag will be on the table that is just inside the door.  Do not lose your name tag as they do have a secondary use on the night.

The bar will be open to purchase a drink of your choice.  The bar will take cash or eftpos but not credit.

There is a free challenge for all and hopefully all will have a go.  The game is called “Stu’s Golfballs”.  Stu has a reputation for collecting golf balls as well as hitting some.  We want you to guess how many white balls in his container and also the number of coloured ones.  A spreadsheet and pen are nearby to the game to add your guess.  You will be able to see what others have guessed but I don’t think that will be much of a help.  Later on in the evening the nearest to each of the correct answers will win a worthwhile prize from one of our sponsors.

The other games is quoits with a prize both for the most successful male and female.  This has a cost of $2 a turn which will give you six throws.  A second go will cost you another $2.  If there is more that one winner then there will be a very quick one quoit throw off with the nearest taking the prize.  The worthwhile prizes from one of our sponsors will be presented later in the night.

There will also be a raffle on sale at a cost of $2 a ticket or three for $5.  There are 11 worthwhile prizes to be won; all donated by our sponsors.  We will start with the first prize and head down the list.  If you have already won a raffle prize then this negates you winning a second prize.

Everyone is to be seated by 6:45pm please.

If anyone has water jugs that they are happy for us to use for the tables please bring them to the pre walk meeting on the Wednesday or before the Dinner.

There are few carpark’s at the end of the drive and further parking along the eastern side of the drive.  We will have parking attendants to assist.  If the attendants are not there then parking is probably full and you will need to find a park in the nearby streets.  The Bowling Club is located at 34 Frankmoore Avenue.

The event details are:

Date: Saturday,  July 31 2021
Time: 6 pm start
Venue:  Johnsonville Bowling Club
Cost: $40
Dress: Smart Casual
Bring: Money for raffles and game, as well as a pen!!!!

Last Weeks Walks

: Last Wednesday’s walks were cancelled.  Also there were no starters for the Thursday Night walk again due to inclement weather, but Friday’s weather was better with 26 walkers basically walking from Plimmerton to Pukerua Bay and back.

Photos

Here are some photos from last week.  Walkers please try and take a photo of each group on walking days and email them to peter@jville.kiwi preferably small size (around 450kb).

Walk Schedules

You can look at the walk schedule for August here.

Wednesday 28th July 2021
General

All three walks start in Crofton and extend either into Ngaio or Wadestown.  They are new walks but cover areas of previous walks.  The walks of the PP’s and the SS’s keep to footpaths and sealed tracks; the FF’s may see a bit of mud.  All walks have a bit of uphill but nothing too major.

PP’s: A 4.13 loop heading out into Ngaio, taking in the Tarikaka Settlement and returning back to Silverstream Road.  You can view the walk here.

SS’s: A 7.11km loop that heads up into the hills of Ngaio and then down to and through the Tarikaka Settlement and back to Silverstream Road.  A few hills but all on footpaths and sealed walkways.  You can view the walk here.

FF’s: A 8.04km loop that heads up into the hills of Crofton, then over to Wadestown and back to Silverstream via Trelisick Park.  You can view the walk here.

Parking

Parking for all three groups is in Silverstream Road.  Can the PP’s park at the start of the straight part of Silverstream Road, the SS’s park about halfway along the straight and the FF’s right up towards the end of the road.

(Please check that your parking does not leave the use of the road compromised.)

Coffee

We have told Simmer that we will be coming for coffee.

Cancellation

If required will be by email at 8:00am.

Enjoy your walks.

Koha

Remember that if you rely on others for your transport most weeks then a small $2 payment for a nearby walk and a $4 payment for a longer walk would help to lessen the costs a little for those providing the transport.
