Alison’s Corner

Our records again show two birthdays this week; one being Julie Huynen and the other Roger Ulwin.   So happy birthday to Julie and Roger.   We trust they both have a very enjoyable special day.

Last Weeks Walks

Second Wednesday back from our enforced break and whatever the reason our numbers were back up again with 12 FF’s, 24 SS’s and 23 FF’s making a total of 59 Wednesday Walkers.  The Khandallah suburbs walks seem to be quite popular looking at these figures and the past Khandallah walk figures.  The previous two walks in the Khandallah suburbs had 58 and 65 walkers.  Thursday night was a bit windy and cool so the Thursday walkers had a social night instead of walking and on a dull and windy Friday, 19 Friday Walkers completed a loop that headed into Whitby via Bothamley Park.  Wednesday’s weather was the pick of these three days by quite a long way.

Photos

Here are some photos from from last week.  Walkers please try and take a photo of each group on walking days and email them to peter@jville.kiwi preferably small size (around 450kb).

Walk Schedules

You can look at the walk schedule for the rest of September here.

Wednesday 22nd September 2021
General

Whilst in an earlier report a statement was made that we would not be following the schedule this month it turns out that both last weeks and this weeks walks are coincidentally listed on the schedule.  The walks are all based on a shoreline walk of the Titahi Bay coast.  A jacket is always a good idea around parts of this coast. Some bays are sheltered and some are not.

PP’s:  A 5.7km there and back walk along the water’s edge which can be shortened and lengthened as required.  You can view the walk here.

SS’s:  A 7.65km walk around the water’s edge and then back over the inland track.  The inland track does include a bit of a hill.  You can view the walk here.

FF’s:  A 8.23km walk also around the water’s edge and then back over the hill and then via the Titahi Bay roads back to the carpark.  You can view the walk here.

Parking

All groups.  Parking is in the usual carpark on the corner of Titahi Bay Road and Onepoto Road. (Opposite but south of Onepoto Park.)

Coffee

Yes probably at home again but perhaps it could be a takeaway from a nearby café but it will not be a preselected café under Level 2.  We will warn Columbus Coffee in Mitre 10 Mega, Porirua that some of us will be coming in for coffee but if we are still in Level 2 the café will not be able to cater for us all.  (First in first served.)  If Level 1 things might be back to normal.

Cancellation

The normal cancellation before 8:00am will be sent by email if required.

At the time of writing this report the writers prediction is that we will still be walking under the Level 2 requirements. So remember to scan in and try for a little bit of social distancing. If we are back in Level 1 be happy.

Koha

Remember that if you rely on others for your transport most weeks then a small $2 payment for a nearby walk and a $4 payment for a longer walk would help to lessen the costs a little for those providing the transport.

Laugh

Kids today don't know how easy they have it... when I was young, I  had to walk over 9 feet of shag carpet to change the TV channel.
