Churton Park Community Walkers

Newsletter 9th March 2025

Last week:

We have had a mixed week this past week with a number of regular walkers in Tasmania successfully enjoying walks around Hobart. Next week the group will be in Launceston. Unfortunately, the Wednesday walks back in Wellington were cancelled due to the weather conditions. However, Gillian Mills reported that 10 walkers strode around Churton Park on Thursday evening, completing 5.1km. On Friday there were 5 walkers who enjoyed a walk at the Whareroa farm on the Kapiti Coast.

Walk Details for Wednesday 12th March:

This week:  Quite a few walkers will still be away, but the Wednesday walks will go on without them.  This week we stay at home with the walks being based in Churton Park.  They are walks we have carried out in the past.  The walks are to start at 9:20am from the designated starting point which, this week, just happens to be the Churton Park New World carpark.

The Walks:

PPs:  A 3.83km loop using the streets, walkways and parks of Churton Park.  You can see the walk here.

SSs:   A 5.78km loop walk.  This is a walk from March last year.  You can see the walk here.

FFs:   A 7.96km loop walk. An old walk from 2020; the walk extends as far as Johnsonville and then back to Churton Park. You can see the walk on Mapometer here and on Plotaroute here.

Parking:   Obviously the parking is in the Churton Park New World carpark.  Please keep to the south-eastern area of the carpark.

Coffee:   Coffee is at Simmer.  As we are unsure of numbers we have not booked, but I am sure they will cope with any walkers who turn up.

Reminder

Please ensure that you inform your group’s leader if you leave a walk partway through.

CPCW Photos

Wednesday's walk in Wellington was cancelled, but for the first full day of the Tasmanian "Away Walk" (on Wednesday) the weather was brilliant.  SSs ventured partially up Mt Wellington, looming above Hobart, and across to the Organ Pipes for a challenging walk.  FFs went further up on a bit of a grueling walk to the summit from where they enjoyed stunning views across the city and far beyond before heading down another track and back across to the Organ Pipes and down the hill.  PPs enjoyed touring some of the sights of Hobart
