Churton Park Community Walkers

Newsletter 16th March 2025

Last week:

Local walks prevailed this week.  We had a total of 37 walkers on Wednesday comprised of 6 Fast Footers, 28 Steady Steppers and 3 Pleasure Pacers getting around Churton Park.  Another 7 walkers also completed a local walk on Thursday.

We welcome three new members to our group - Steve and Mary Venn and Craig James. We are sure that you will enjoy the variety of walks that are organised each week.

Meanwhile, those in Tasmania have now completed their walks in Launceston and are either heading back home or venturing further afoot for some longer walks.

With best wishes

Brian Vincent.

Walk Details for Wednesday 19th March:

This Week's Walks:  Not too sure how many of the travelling walkers are back in town and ready to walk.  Anyway, the walks for this coming Wednesday are in Titahi Bay and, for a change, we are not just walking around the coast.  The walks for both the PPs and SSs do take in a bit of beach and a few streets and perhaps a short bush track. The walks are all ones we have carried out in the past.

The walks will start at 9:20am from the designated starting point.  This starting point is not our usual starting point for Titahi Bay walks so please check below for details about the parking.   (We have used this parking area a few times in the past.)

The Walks:

PPs:   A 3.79km loop walk.  Takes in Titahi Bay beach where there is a choice of walking along the sand or along a track just above the beach.  You can see the walk here.

SSs:  A 5.61km loop walk.  This walk also takes in the beach, a bit of a track and quite a few streets as well.  You can see the walk here.

FFs:   A 7.25km loop walk. Basically a walk covering quite a lot of the suburban streets and a bit of a track.  No beach for the FFs.   You can see the walk on Mapometer here and on Plotaroute here.

Parking:  Parking is in the carpark on Bay Drive (near the driveway to the beach) for the first arrivals and, once this is full, in the surrounding streets.

Coffee:   Coffee is at Columbus Coffee, Mitre 10 Mega, Porirua.  We have warned them that a number of us will be arriving.

Reminder

Please ensure that you inform your group’s leader if you leave a walk partway through.

Cancellations

If the walks are cancelled an email will be sent out as early as possible but definitely before 8:00am.

With many of the regular Friday crew still away, there was no Friday walk this week, but here is a selection of photos from the CPCW members in Tasmania.  There is still a small group who are due to head out on the 4 day/3 night tramp of the Three Capes.  Here is a selection of photos of the CPCW Tasmanian Devils.  Photos were taken by Bill Gaudie; John Houghton; Paul Alpe; Keith Thomas; Pat Vincent.

Home Page:  Don't forget to take a quick look at the “Home Page” - there is usually a new photo each week.

Walkers: please try and take a photo of each group on walking days and email them to this link.  Preferably use a small size (around 450kb).

Just for Fun

No cartoon this week; just laugh at your editor struggling unsuccessfully to shrink a cartoon image to a suitable size to import to the newsletter.  Duh!!!
