Churton Park Community Walkers
Newsletter 23rd March 2025
Last week:
Once again the weather turned against us and, with rain all morning on Wednesday, we had to cancel the proposed walks. A few walkers enjoyed a coffee and chat at Simmer instead. Seven walkers ventured out and around Churton Park on Thursday evening completing a distance of 5km. They noted that the evenings are becoming darker much earlier than in previous weeks which is likely to mean mostly street walks over the next few months. On Friday nine walkers completed a circular walk around Te Whiti/Point Howard/ Gracefield.
Some statistics from our statistician, Paul Alpe, about the Tasmanian trip -
‘Total distance walked by the 26 CPCW walkers over the 9 days we had in Tasmania was 1086.8 km. The average distance being 41.8 km and individual distances ranging from 13.5km to 60.5km.’

Walk Details for Wednesday 26th March:
This Week's Walks: Hopefully most of the walkers that have been on adventures overseas are back on deck and looking forward to a pleasant Wednesday walk with the others who stayed in town. The walks this week are in Whitby and have been prepared by Andy Dunn. These are variations of other walks that Andy has prepared for the group when we select Whitby for our walks. Thank you, Andy. The walks are to start at 9:20am from the designated starting point.
The Walks:
PPs: A 3.69km loop walk. You can see the walk here. (Please ignore the incorrect date on the map.)
SSs: A 6.65km loop walk. You can see the walk here.
FFs: An 8.40km loop walk. You can see the walk on Mapometer here and on Plotaroute here.
Parking: Parking is at Adventure Park which is our usual parking spot just across the road from the Whitby shopping area.
Coffee: Coffee is at Columbus Coffee, Mitre 10 Mega, Porirua. We have warned them that a number of us will be arriving. (The schedule suggested other places, but Columbus deals with our numbers much better.)
