Walk Details for Wednesday 21st May:
This Week's Walks: Fairly local this week with all walks starting at the Outlet City, 24 Main Road, Tawa (formerly Dressmart). The walks will start at 9:20am from the designated starting point which is the Outlet City carpark.
PPs: A 4.07km loop walk. A minor bit of hill work on this one, but the rest is generally flat. It is possible to cut it short if needed. Covers some local Tawa Streets on both sides of the railway lines. All good surfaces. You can see the walk here.
SSs: A 5.76km loop walk. Heads out using the local streets on the west side of Tawa. All good surfaces with a short section in a park. Utilises a part of Ara Tawa for the return. You can see the walk here.
FFs: A 7.27km loop walk. A walk on good surfaces setting out on the Ara Tawa walkway and returning via the streets on the west side of Tawa. You can see the walk on Mapometer here and on Plotaroute here.
Parking: There is a lot of parking in the Outlet City carpark. Please use the less used parking areas to try and ensure that we do not upset any of the current tenants. There is also a section at the eastern end that has been set aside for commuters which can be used. After parking we should all congregate in the general area of Domino's Pizza ready for the start of the walks.
Coffee: We will inform Gloria Jean's Coffee that some of us will be coming in for coffee and, perhaps, a snack. (Gloria Jean's Coffee is at the eastern end of Outlet City).
Happy walking.

Also taken on the Wednesday walk are a very artistic photo of a spoonbill at the estuary, taken by Paul Alpe, and a photo , taken by Bill Gaudie, of a group of menacing, pterydactylian monsters waiting to devour unwary walkers.

On Thursday, the group of walkers headed out around Churton Park and Johnsonville. Thank you, once again, to Gillian Mills for these photos:

Friday's walkers left brilliant blue sky and sunshine in Wellington to head to Paraparaumu where the hills were shrouded in cloud. It was an otherwise pleasant autumnal day - cool and still - which was ideal for climbing seemingly endless hills! Thanks to John Houghton and Bill Gaudie for the group photos and to Clint Davis for the photo of the magnificent nikau palms in the Hadfield Reserve.
