Churton Park Community Walkers is a group based in Churton Park but with members from all over the Wellington Region.  It caters for all age groups and genders, but most members are retired or semi-retired.  It is not just walking that the group offers; social activities are also organised.  Friendship and companionship are to the fore.  The walks generally finish with a coffee and a chat at various cafes around the region.  There are two or three social functions organised each year and drinks are held monthly at a local venue.

Walks are held on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Wednesday is the walking day for all members with an average of around 60 participants.  Walkers are split into three ability-based groups.  The different groups walk between 3.5 and 9 km, taking about 60 – 90 minutes most weeks.  Click here for more information.

Thursday evening is a small group and is mainly offered for those members who are still working.  The walks are generally more local and within the neighbouring suburbs with each walk taking about 60 minutes Click here for more information.

Friday is a longer walk, taking between 3 and 5 hours and covering distances from 10 - 21 kms.  Click here for more information.

Apart from the weekly walks, the group also offers away walks each year where those interested head away for a few days to undertake walks outside the Wellington Region.  Over the past years, trips have been made to the Chatham Islands, Motueka, New Plymouth, the Tongariro Crossing, Waipa and Karamea.  Also offered once a year, is a day trip such as Kapiti Island, Mana Island, and Petuna Chasm near Martinborough.
