Current Wednesday Walk

Convenor’s Comment

Alison’s Corner

Two of our regular and long term lady walkers are having a birthday this coming week.  These walkers are Pat Vincent and Adrienne Holloway.  We trust that Pat and Adrienne have a very enjoyable special day.  (The same for anyone we have missed.)

Christmas Lunch

We have had an extremely good response to attending this event.  Everything has been confirmed with “The Pines” and the bus booked.  The dinner cost price has been set at $36 per head and an additional $10 per head for those that want to take the bus.  The bus will leave from Churton Park at 11:15am for a 12:05pm arrival at “The Pines” and leave “The Pines” at about 3:30pm for the return to Churton Park.  A high number of you confirmed your interest in attending.  We now need confirmation of this interest by payment of either $36 per walker, thereby indicating that you are coming to the lunch but do not intend taking the bus, or payment of $46 per walker indicating that you are coming to the lunch and taking the bus.  (There is plenty of room on the double decker bus.)   Please pay online (details in Sunday's email)  or by cash in a sealed envelope to either Keith Thomas or Russell Paterson with your name/s on the outside but online payment is  preferred. A confirmation email will be sent confirming your payment has been received and your place at the lunch confirmed.  We have to give final numbers etc to “The Pines” 10 working days prior to the event so thus we need these payments (thereby confirmation) by Wednesday 10th November.  (Any queries please email us.)   We also trust that all attendees will be fully vaccinated.

Last Weeks Walks

This past Wednesday we returned to Ian Galloway park to take on the walks that we were not able to use the previous week.  We heard several comments from the walkers that they were in new territory especially when walking around the streets of Wilton/Northland and also the southern end of the bush track.  Both the SS’s and the FF’s managed to get a little off course.  There were 81 walkers taking part made up of 20 PP’s, 41 SS’s and 20 FF’s.  This is the greatest number of walkers that we have had for a Wednesday walk.  Thursday night’s weather was good for the 4 or so   walkers who set out for an early evening walk around the Churton Park area and on Friday 20 walkers walked from the City to the Sea with most utilising the No: 1 bus to get to town and then to get home.

Photos

Here are some photos from from last week.  Walkers please try and take a photo of each group on walking days and email them to peter@jville.kiwi preferably small size (around 450kb).

Walk Schedules

You can look at the walk schedule for November here.

Wednesday 27th October 2021
General

Three new walks this week all created by Gay during Level 3.  These take in streets in the Linden area of Tawa. (The walk schedule said the walks were to be in Kenepuru but this is close by.)

PP’s:  A 3.74km loop walk almost totally on streets but with a voluntary small optional offshoot loop within a bush area.  The route goes under SH1 in two different areas. All the hills are relatively gentle.  You can view the walk here.

SS’s:   A 5.47km loop starting off in the Reserve and returning via the streets.  You can view the walk here.

FF’s:    A 7.80km walk using some tracks in the Reserve and also the streets.  You can view the walk here.

Parking

PP's:  In Hinau Street alongside Kowhai Park which is north of Tawa College and on the other side.  Turn right off Tawa Main Road at McLellan Street and then left into Hinau Street.

SS's:  Outside or near to the entrance of Wilf Mexted Reserve.  This is where Collins Ave runs into Woodman Drive.  Turn off Tawa Main Road at Linden Avenue which changes to Collins Avenue.

FF's:  In Hinau Street alongside Kowhai Park which is north of Tawa College and on the other side.  Turn right off Tawa Main Road at McLellan Street and then left into Hinau Street.

Coffee

We have told BB’s cafĂ© in Dress Smart Outlet Centre that quite a few of us will be coming.  There is of course Simmer who we will also advise that some of us are coming.  Hopefully that will allow for most of us.

Cancellation

The normal cancellation before 8:00am will be sent by email if required.

We are still walking under Level 2 so remember to scan in and try for a little bit of social distancing.

Happy walking

Koha

Remember that if you rely on others for your transport most weeks then a small $2 payment for a nearby walk and a $4 payment for a longer walk would help to lessen the costs a little for those providing the transport.

Laugh

I lost my job as a stage designer. I left without making a scene.
