Last Weeks Walks

All of last week’s scheduled walks were able to proceed, with the weather being kind to us.  The Wednesday groups went to Avalon where 13 Pleasure Pacers, 14 Fast Footers and 24 Steady Steppers enjoyed the walks alongside or near the Hutt River.  On Thursday 7 walkers, plus Red, went to Crofton Downs and Ngaio. Friday saw seventeen walkers head up to Mount Kaukau.

We have only two more ‘walking weeks’ prior to the Christmas /New Year break – with walks scheduled for this coming week and the next.  Details about this week’s walks are set out below.

Have a great week

Reminder

Please ensure that you inform your group’s leader if you leave a walk partway through.

This Weeks Walks (Wednesday 13 December)

As scheduled the walks this coming Wednesday are based around the Te Whiti Riser track which is situated in the Waiwhetu area of Lower Hutt.

All Walks:  The Te Whiti Riser is a track of good quality at an easy uphill gradient that is at a gentle enough grade for some mothers to push their pushchairs up. It is proposed that all three groups walk up the track with the Fast Footers heading to the top and beyond and then returning, the Steady Steppers heading to the top and then returning and the Pleasure Pacers going up as far as they feel like and then returning.  All three groups are guaranteed very good views over the Hutt Valley. To the top is about 3km with the same distance to return.  The FF’s could if they wish make a loop out of it by going a bit further and returning via another track.

Walks Map:  You can see a map of the combined walks here.

Parking

The parking is along the boundaries of the western edge of Te Whiti Park.  This parking is on Riverside Drive Central.  Turn right off Randwick Road at the lights onto White Lines East.  Head straight along White Lines East and continue straight and well past the Wainui Road turnoff until you come to Guthrie Street on the left.  Head along Guthrie Street until you find Riverside Drive Central on your right.  We are parking at the northern end of the large park on Riverside Drive Central.

Coffee

It is proposed that we have a picnic on the grass and under the trees at the corner of the park.  So bring your rugs or chairs, coffee or tea and maybe a snack or two.  If the whether is not that suitable then we could head to Columbus Coffee, Mitre 10 Mega, Petone.  We will not have informed them that we could be coming and hopefully with good weather we will be able to have our picnic and not need to go there (there are toilets in the building close to the White Lines East entrance to the park).

Enjoy your walks
