General

This year’s Queens Birthday Honours list included Anne Urlwin who is the wife of our PP Walker Roger Urlwin.  Congratulations to Ann for the award of ONZM officer of the NZ Order of Merit for services to business.

Last Weeks Walks

The weather played its part and all of the weeks walks were completed in favourable weather.  On Wednesday 20 PP’s, 29 SS’s and 21 FF’s completed walks around the Khandallah and Ngaio areas. Thursday night saw 6 Thursday Night Dawdlers walked up to Johnsonville and then back to Churton Park and on Friday 19 Friday Walkers carried out a confusing figure of 8 walk taking in Northland, Thorndon, The Botanical Gardens, Kelburn and lots of steps between. All in all a good full week of walking.

This Weeks Walks

We don’t go to Island Bay too often but this is what is proposed for this week.  With minor variations these are walks that have been carried out in the past.  The PP’s walk is basically flat, there are some relatively easy hills in the SS’s and a few more testing hills in the FF’s.

Briefing

Usual time and place (New World Carpark just before 9:00am).

PP’s: A 4.68km loop walk along paths and footpaths.  You can view the walk here.

SS’s: A 5.78km loop walk using paths and footpaths.  You can view the walk here.

FF’s: A 6.88km loop walk using paths, tracks and footpaths.  You can view the walk here.

Parking

Parking is in the large seaside carpark opposite the Beach House Kiosk and CafĂ© on The Esplanade, Island Bay.

Coffee

Coffee will be at any place of your choice.  The first back can all go to The Beach House but it will not cope with all of us these days (the back is now a shop).  There are some coffee bars within the Island Bay shops and of course there is Simmer back at Churton Park. We have not booked anywhere.

Cancellation

If the walks are cancelled an email will be sent out early as possible but definitely before 8:00pm.

Happy June Walking,

Russell Paterson

Koha

Every week we leave a note about Koha in the newsletter.  We have no idea what private sharing arrangements are in place regarding getting rides but we trust that those who don’t regularly bring cars do make up for it in some small way, be it buying a coffee for the driver or by making some small cash donation.

Walk Schedules

You can look at the walk schedule for the rest of June here.

Photos

Below are some photos from last week.  Walkers please try and take a photo of each group on walking days and email them to peter@jville.kiwi preferably small size (around 450kb).
