Current Wednesday Walk

Convenor’s Comment

Alison’s Corner

This week we have Annette Thomas having a birthday in the middle of the week.  We trust that Annette has an enjoyable special day.  (We trust that anyone we missed also had an enjoyable special day.)

Friday “Drinkies”

These will be held this Friday 3rd December at Sprig and Fern, Tawa starting at 5:00pm.  This will be the last Friday Night “Drinkies” until February unless a nearly Christmas Day impromptu get together happens.

Christmas Lunch

Great turnout of 91 for the Christmas Lunch.  Trust all attendees enjoyed the afternoon, taking in the bus tour (for 50), the food, the Walking Group Quiz and the Walking Group Bingo.  Father Christmas could only find 9 good kids for presents meaning that there were 82 others that hadn’t been so good and there were only 4 lucky enough to win the bingo.

Last Weeks Walks

Obviously the Wednesday walks were on hold.  Not known whether anyone turned up at 9:00am for a local walk.  However on Thursday evening some 6 walkers headed up to the top of Kaukau and on Friday some 23 walkers had to cancel their Belmont walk because of high winds or because of a locked access gate or both excuses; and instead completed a 10km sheltered walk along the steps and tracks on the lower slopes of Colonial Knob.

Photos

Just a couple of photos here.  You can access all the last lot of photos via the links in the email.  Walkers please try and take a photo of each group on walking days and email them to peter@jville.kiwi preferably small size (around 450kb).

Walk Schedules

You can look at the walk schedule for the rest of December here.

Wednesday 1st December 2021
General

As per the schedule this weeks walks are local based on Melksham Drive and the nearby areas.

PP’s: A 3.51km loop on the end of an out and back taking in the length of Melksham Drive; starting and ending in the New World Carpark.  You can view the walk here.

SS’s: A 4.72km loop on roads and tracks starting and ending in the New World Carpark.  You can view the walk here.

FF’s: A 6.79km loop on roads and tracks starting and ending in the New World Carpark.  You can view the walk here.

Parking

South eastern end of the New World Carpark or on the street.

Coffee

At Simmer with Thyme as an alternative.  We will tell Simmer that we are coming but as you can guess there will probably be more of us than they can cope with.

Cancellation

The normal cancellation before 8:00am will be sent by email if required.

We are still walking under Level 2 (for the last time!) so remember to scan in and try for a little bit of social distancing.

Happy walking

Koha

Remember that if you rely on others for your transport most weeks then a small $2 payment for a nearby walk and a $4 payment for a longer walk would help to lessen the costs a little for those providing the transport.

History

When the white missionaries came to Africa, they had the Bible and we had the land.  They said, “Let us pray.”  We closed our eyes.  When we opened them, we had the Bible and they had the land.  Desmond Tutu
