Last Weeks Walks

For the first time in a while the weather allowed all walks this week to go ahead.  On Wednesday 11PPs, 26SSs and 23 FFs enjoyed walking the streets of Whitby.  There were 4 walkers out and about on the streets of Churton Park on Thursday evening.  On Friday 17 walkers tackled the streets of Johnsonville, Newlands and Khandallah, including going up the flight of 461 steps at Kaiwharawhara.  As always, a huge 'thank you' to all those involved in planning and leading these weekly walks.

David

Reminder

Please ensure that you inform your group’s leader if you leave a walk partway through.

This Weeks Walks (Wednesday 30 August)

We tried for Ngaio a few weeks back but the weather did not play its part.  Thus we have decided to give it another go and therefore Ngaio is the suburb for this weeks walks.  These walks all start at Nairnville Park.  They are new walks but do cover similar ground to previous walks in this area.  We couldn’t walk the track at the end of Awarua Street last time as it was closed for upgrading so the SS’s are giving it a go this week.  If any of the SS’s walkers want to shorten the walk and not take on the bush part of the walk; they can head directly up Fox Street.  However it is a good bush walk and although mostly uphill it is a reasonably easy grade.

PP’s: A  4.67km loop walk that is on footpaths and some pedestrian walkways.  The walk is undulating with no real steep areas.  You can see the walk here.

SS’s: A 5.81km loop walk  that is also on footpaths and uses a few pedestrian walkways as short cuts.   The walk includes a couple of suburban street climbs with also a small climb on the track through the bush.  Nothing really too strenuous.  You can see the walk here.

FF’s: A 6.91km loop walk on roads, footpaths, steps and pedestrian walkways.  You can see the walk here.

Enjoy your walks

Parking

Parking for all three groups is in the Nairnville Park carpark and the surrounding streets.

Coffee

We will tell Simmer that a number of us will be coming for coffee after our walks.  You are welcome to try elsewhere on your way home if you think Simmer might be too crowded.  However, they generally cope quite well.

Website

When you open the website to view your walk have a quick look at the “Home Page”.  This usually has a new picture each week generally showing a view from one of our walks.

Cancellation

If the walks are cancelled an email will be sent out as early as possible but definitely before 8:00am.

Walk Schedules
