Churton Park Community Walkers

Newsletter 2 October 2022

Friday Night “Drinkies”

This is being held at the usual start time of 5:00pm on Friday 7th October at Sprig and Fern, Tawa.  We have advised them that we will be coming and they will have reserved some space for us.

Christmas Lunch

A reminder that the date for the Christmas Lunch is Thursday 1st  December 2022.  The price is the same as last year, that is $40 per head and the bus will also be available at $10 per head.  As a good number of Walkers are heading down south in early November thus we will be asking for numbers for both the function and the bus by Monday 7th November 2022.  Payment can be made at the same time. (For those who need more time to make a decision on whether they will be coming or not, then we would need to know by the date that has been set by the Caterer for final numbers and that is Thursday 17th November)  Confirmation should be made by email to and payment to the Churton Park Community Walkers Bank Account No: 02-0524-0233091-000 using name/s and CPCW X dinner as reference.

Last Weeks Walks

Wednesday saw a good turnout for the Te Whiti Riser walks.  There were 17 PP’s, 34 SS’s and 18 FF’s; this making a total of 69 walkers.  All used the same track and went as far up the hill as they wanted to taking in the great views of Lower Hutt.  The bad weather of Winter repeated itself for the rest of the week and both Thursday night’s and Friday’s walks were cancelled.

This Weeks Walks (Wednesday 5 October)

The scheduled walks would have included some tracks that would still be muddy; and the area is exposed to the wind; thus a decision was made to keep to local footpaths and well formed tracks for this week.  So instead we are walking in Johnsonville with new routes for all three groups.  Hopefully these walks give you an insight to parts of Johnsonville that you would not normally come across.

PP’s:  A 5.32km loop walk.  The walk includes a gentle rise but overall is generally flat.  You can view the walk here

SS’s:  A 7.12km loop walk that includes a steep rise at the start and thereafter is generally downhill.  You can view the walk here

FF’s:  A 7.75km loop walk which does include a couple of hills.  You can view the walk here.

Parking

Parking for all groups is in the Alex Moore Park carpark which is accessed off Banister Avenue.  (Our usual parking for Johnsonville walks.)

Coffee

Simmer has been advised that a good number of us will be coming.  You are welcome to try alternative cafĂ©’s.

Website

When you open the website to view your walk have a quick look at the “Home Page”.  This usually has a new picture each week generally showing a view from one of our walks.

Cancellation

If the walks are cancelled an email will be sent out as early as possible but definitely before 8:00am.

Happy October Walking

Koha

Every week we leave a note about Koha in the newsletter.  We have no idea what private sharing arrangements are in place regarding getting rides but we trust that those who don’t regularly bring cars do make up for it in some small way, be it buying a coffee for the driver or by making some small cash donation.

Walk Schedules

You can look at the walk schedule for the rest of October here.

Photos

Below are some photos from the week before last.  Walkers please try and take a photo of each group on walking days and email them to peter@jville.kiwi preferably small size (around 450kb).
