Last Weeks Walks

The scheduled Wednesday local walks were moved just a little to Johnsonville.  16 PP’s, 30 SS’s and 11 FF’s turned out for their walks making a good total of 57.    The Thursday Explorers started their walking year with 9 walkers heading to Trellisick Park for their walk carried out on a very pleasant evening.  Friday saw the Friday Walkers heading over to Rimutaka Park where some 13 walkers took part. So the walking group is now back in full swing.

This Weeks Walks

We will see how the quieter traffic time whilst Schools and the University are closed goes with us all getting to Island Bay where our three walks are planned.  My view is that there will not be a problem.  The walks down the south coast and this general area are always interesting.  The three walks are as follows:

PP’s: A 3.86km generally flat loop on footpath or formed tracks.  You can see the walk here.

SS’s: A 6.56km loop which includes a couple of hills but the rest is flat.  You can see the walk here.

FF’s: A 7.54km loop on tracks and paths and is definitely not all flat.  You can see the walk here.

Parking

We will try for the parking of all three groups in Reef Street.  However we almost certainly will have to rely on adjoining streets if we have a good turnout.  We have chosen this area as it is proposed that we have a picnic in the adjoining Shorland Park.  If the weather is good enough for the walks but not perhaps for the picnic, then we can all head back to Simmer or any other Café on the way home.

Coffee

It is proposed to have a picnic so no Café has been advised that we could be coming.  See the note added to the end of the parking arrangements. So please bring a thermos and a snack and a chair and or a rug.

Website

When you open the website to view your walk have a quick look at the “Home Page”.  This usually has a new picture each week generally showing a view from one of our walks.

Cancellation

If the walks are cancelled an email will be sent out as early as possible but definitely before 8:00am.

Koha

Every week we leave a note about Koha in the newsletter.  We have no idea what private sharing arrangements are in place regarding getting rides but we trust that those who don’t regularly bring cars do make up for it in some small way, be it buying a coffee for the driver or by making some small cash donation.

Walk Schedules

You can look at the walk schedule for February here.

Photos

Below are some photos from the week before last.  Walkers please try and take a photo of each group on walking days and email them to peter@jville.kiwi preferably small size (around 450kb).
