Our 10th Anniversary Dinner

A reminder to everyone to please make a note in your diaries that this function will be at The Pines from 6pm on 29 July.  We would appreciate early bookings by members so that we can plan the event accordingly. The cost for those attending is $42 per person with the same menu choice as for our previous function at this venue.  We will be providing a bus service from Churton Park at 5.30pm (and return) for those who would like to travel together to the venue.  This will cost only $6 per person (recognising our tenth anniversary, making this evening a special one) and to encourage walkers to take up this option due to limited parking at The Pines while also avoiding the travel across the city by cars.  The overall cost therefore is similar to last year.

If you wish to attend please make payment ($48 for function and bus or $42 for function only) to 02-0524-0233091-000 quoting your name.  No other reference is necessary but if you wish to add “dinner” that’s fine.  No cash payments please

Last Weeks Walks

A good turnout once again on Wednesday saw 19 fast footers, 22 steady steppers and 8 pleasure pacers walking around Khandallah.

On Thursday there were 4 walkers who enjoyed a mild evening for their walk around Churton Park (accompanied as usual by Red).

There were 16 starters for the Friday walk taking in the Te Whiti Loop to Point Howard and the Te Whiti Riser going anticlockwise, a distance of some 14.9kms.

This Weeks Walks (Wednesday 28 June)

This we week we will try our luck and have a walk in town.  These walks are based around the Botanical Gardens and the adjoining Thorndon Area; both interesting areas for a walk.  Thanks to Bill Gaudie for researching and preparing these walks.

PP’s: A 5.01km elongated loop walk starting and ending at the parking area a good way up Glenmore Street and taking in some of Thorndon’s oldest streets and shops.  You can see the walk here.

SS’s: A 7.57km elongated loop walk based in Thorndon but an access leg there and back taking in a part of the Botanical Gardens.  Some parts are a little uphill but are on good clean surfaces with no mud.  The walk is slightly longer than the FF’s but on a much better surface and a much gentler plane then the FF’s.  No doubt if required a short cut could be found.  You can see the walk here.

FF’s: A 7.19km loop walk touring the streets of Thorndon and Kelburn.  Good shoes are suggested for the portion of the Ahumairangi Track where there is a bit of mud here and there and of course there are some hills.  You can see the walk here.

Parking

Please note that the parking is on Glenmore Street but a good way up and opposite the intersection with a Orangi-Kaupapa Road.  This parking is near to a small entry point into the Gardens.  The parking is within a Coupon Parking which means you will have two hours of free parking. Please park in this general area and not just anywhere in Glenmore Street; thus hopefully allowing us easy assembly of the three groups.

Coffee

Coffee is in Picnic Café in the Botanical Gardens.  You can shift your cars nearer to the café, thus giving you another two free hours if you can find a suitable park.  We have informed the Café that a group of us will be coming, however there is always Simmer etc. back at Churton Park.

Website

When you open the website to view your walk have a quick look at the “Home Page”.  This usually has a new picture each week generally showing a view from one of our walks.

Cancellation

If the walks are cancelled an email will be sent out as early as possible but definitely before 8:00am.

Enjoy your walks.
Brian Vincent.
