Churton Park Community Walkers

Christmas Lunch

Reserve the date. The date is Thursday 1st December 2022 with this being held again at the Pines. Like last year a bus will be available. (We missed out on a suitable Wednesday even though we tried to book one way back in March.)

Last Weeks Walks

The weather played its part and all the weeks walks were successfully undertaken. The Khandallah walks were popular with some 77 walkers taking part made up of 21 PP’s, 29 SS’s and 27 FF’s. This is the most walkers on a Wednesday since October last year when we had an all time high of 81. Thursday night saw 6 Thursday Night Crawlers head off around the streets of Churton Park and on Friday some 20 Friday Walkers parked at Island Bay and walked to the City with some catching the number 1 bus home and others catching the number 1 bus back to their cars. In summary a very productive walking week after quite a lot of cancellations.

This Weeks Walks (Wednesday 7 September)

This week we head to Whitby. Thanks to Andy Dunn for preparing and checking out these walks. We have carried out these walks in the past but it was quite some time ago.

PP’s: A 4.5km loop walk taking in the footpaths and tracks of Whitby. Nothing too steep. You can view the walk here.

SS’s: A 6.29km loop also taking in the footpaths and tracks of Whitby with some minor hills. You can view the walk here.

FF’s: A 7.23km loop walk also taking in the footpaths and tracks of Whitby and some hills. You can view the walk here.

Parking

Parking for all three groups is in the Pautahanui Lighthouse Theatre carpark and the surrounding area. (Easy access off transmission Gully.)

Coffee

Groundup Café does not take bookings but generally copes with our numbers reasonably well. There is also coffee available in the Lighthouse Theatre and of course walkers can head back to Simmer. Nothing definite has been organised for these walks.

Website

When you open the website to view your walk have a quick look at the “Home Page”. This usually has a new picture each week generally showing a view from one of our walks.

Cancellation

If the walks are cancelled an email will be sent out as early as possible but definitely before 8:00am.

Koha

Every week we leave a note about Koha in the newsletter. We have no idea what private sharing arrangements are in place regarding getting rides but we trust that those who don’t regularly bring cars do make up for it in some small way, be it buying a coffee for the driver or by making some small cash donation.
