Churton Park Community Walkers

Newsletter 21 August 2022

NzMapometer

This is the site that we use to plan the walks and that allows you to view them.  The program stores the walks in our own allocated database with some 200 walks saved.  However as most of you will have noticed the site is down.  As of Saturday morning it is still down.  So the walks this week will have to be created in PlotaRoute and should open in much the same way as usual.  (Excuse the Ads)

Last Weeks Walks

The whole week was a complete right off with Wednesday, Thursday and Friday’s walks all cancelled.  Probably the first time that everything has been cancelled.  All cancellations were good calls this time.

This Weeks Walks (Wednesday 24 August)

We will give Macalister Park a chance to dry out.  We will try again with these Berhampore walks in the coming months as we will with Evans Bay.  So this week we are back to the schedule with three flat walks in Petone.  As these walks are flat they have been increased in length a little.

PP’s: A 5.08km flat loop walk taking in the river track and streets. You can view the walk here

SS’s: A 8.07km loop walk using walkways along the river and some Petone and Lower Hutt Streets.  You can view the walk here

FF’s:  A 10.83km loop taking in some streets in both Petone and Lower Hutt mainly on footpaths but also an odd bit of track.  You can view the walk here

Parking

Parking for all three groups is in Marine Parade.  Go about halfway along and congregate.  (To find Marine Parade proceed along The Esplanade in Petone which becomes Waione Street in name; then use the turning lane to turn right into Kirkcaldy Street and then left into Marine Parade (the right turn into Kirkcaldy Street is just before the Gull Service Station).

Coffee

We have told Columbus Coffee in Mitre 10 Mega, Petone that we will be coming.

Website

When you open the website to view your walk have a quick look at the “Home Page”.  This usually has a new picture each week generally showing a view from one of our walks.

Cancellation

If the walks are cancelled an email will be sent out as early as possible but definitely before 8:00am.

Happy August Walking

Koha

Every week we leave a note about Koha in the newsletter.  We have no idea what private sharing arrangements are in place regarding getting rides but we trust that those who don’t regularly bring cars do make up for it in some small way, be it buying a coffee for the driver or by making some small cash donation.

Walk Schedules

You can look at the walk schedule for the rest of August here.

Photos

Below are some photos from the week before last.  Walkers please try and take a photo of each group on walking days and email them to peter@jville.kiwi preferably small size (around 450kb).
