Last Weeks Walks

As Wednesday morning was wet and windy the three Wednesday walks were cancelled.  The day improved later but stayed windy.  It still would have been miserable walking along the Porirua Inlet coastline.  By Thursday night things had improved considerably and 6 of the Thursday Night Crawlers walked to Johnsonville and back.  This coming Thursday they have decided to put their walk on hold and instead celebrate the fact that their small group has been walking for 9 years and this is worthy of a small celebration which in this case is dinner out in Johnsonville together.  The Friday Walkers also struck a reasonable day with most catching public transport to the starting point at Wellington Railway Station and then all heading around the bays to Kilbirnie and then back to the city using some very steep streets and the Town Belt before returning to home again with most again using public transport.  Some of the walkers fell victim to the usual cancellation of a bus service.

This Weeks Walks (Wednesday 21 September)

We will give last weeks planned walks another go.  As noted last week Brian Vincent has requested that at some stage can he and the rest of the SS’s walk the Camborne end of the northern shoreline of Porirua Inlet.  They have already walked the other half of this shoreline several times starting at Pauatahanui. So the SS’s have a walk from the Ngatitoa Domain to the toilets on Motukaraka Point.  This there and back flat walk totals 7.78km’s but walkers can turn around and go back anytime.  The PP’s have an elongated and narrow loop walk with a bit of shoreline and the FF’s head all over and around Camborne.  If any other walkers have a special request about a walk that they really enjoyed and would like to repeat then let us know using this email link.

PP’s: A 4.34km loop walk taking in the footpaths and tracks of Mana. The walk takes in a not too difficult hill to allow access to the shoreline and the colourful boat sheds. You can view the walk here

SS’s: A 7.78km there and back flat walk on a designated road walking area along Gray’s Road.  The walk can be shortened at anytime by turning around and walking back at any point. You can view the walk here

FF’s:  A 7.05km loop walk also taking in the footpaths and tracks of Camborne. You can view the walk here

Parking

Parking for the SS’s is in the carpark on the right on the extension of Pascoe Avenue a short way into Ngatitoa Domain.  Parking for the PP’s and FF’s is in the carpark that is within Ngatitoa Domain but up by the Mana Station.  Pascoe Avenue is the second on the left after crossing Paremata Bridge.

Coffee

Coffee for all is at Columbus Coffee in Mitre 10 Mega, Porirua. They will have been informed that a good number of us will be coming.

Happy September Walking

Koha

Every week we leave a note about Koha in the newsletter.  We have no idea what private sharing arrangements are in place regarding getting rides but we trust that those who don’t regularly bring cars do make up for it in some small way, be it buying a coffee for the driver or by making some small cash donation.

Walk Schedules

You can look at the walk schedule for the rest of September here.

Photos

Below are some photos from the week before last.  Walkers please try and take a photo of each group on walking days and email them to peter@jville.kiwi preferably small size (around 450kb).
