Convenor’s Comment

Last Weeks Walks

The walks were spread out over Eastbourne with 17 PP’s doing a loop within the streets of Eastbourne, 28 SS’s going from Days Bay to Eastbourne, then a loop through the streets and back to Days Bay and 16 FF’s headed up into the hills and then along a ridge track and back down to the main road and a return to their cars.  Coffee at the Pavilion was well attended.  When the weather is fine this venue is extremely suitable for our three groups to meet up and spread out and take over the whole covered outside area.  Thursday night was misty but this did not stop 7 Thursday Night Crawlers heading out around the streets of Tawa . I understand that they are armed with torches.  On Friday, 19 Friday Walkers juggled cars and rides to allow a longish walk from Stokes Valley up to the top of the hill and along the ridge ending up at Te Whiti Park.

Friday Night “Drinkies”

The usual 5:00pm start on Friday 3rd June at Sprig and Fern, Tawa.  Look forward to seeing a good number of you there.

Alternate Walks

The nonsense of alternate walks started by accident with an incorrect link in the newsletter for the PP’s and for a bit of fun one was added for the SS’s.  So that should be the end of that nonsense but the FF’s should not miss out.  So as the last fling with alternate walks one has been added for each group and that is the end of that!

Koha

Every week we leave a note about Koha in the newsletter.  We have no idea what private sharing arrangements are in place regarding getting rides but we trust that those who don’t regularly bring cars do make up for it in some small way, be it buying a coffee for the driver or by making some small cash donation.

Photos

Here are some photos from last week.  Walkers please try and take a photo of each group on walking days and email them to peter@jville.kiwi preferably small size (around 450kb).

This week's walks

This week it is the Wainui Hill challenge, well for two groups it is but the PP’s have been spared and will have a flat coastal and river bank walk instead.  As parking is a little difficult we have split the three groups.  We trust that arrangements can be made to overcome any vehicles that have walkers from more that one group.  We have checked out the parking; there is not any  problem with the PP’s and FF’s and our inspection led us to believe that for the SS’s it is better than adequate.

PP’s: A 5.23km flat walk along paths and footpaths.  You can view the walk here.

Parking: On Port Road near the intersection with Barnes Street.

You can view the alternate walk here.

SS’s: A 5.45km there and back walk.  You can view the walk here.

Parking:  On Tunnel Grove and nearby streets.  Tunnel Grove is off Gracefield Road.

You can view the alternate walk here.

FF’s: A 7.90km walk on tracks or footpaths.  You can view the walk here.

Parking: On Port Road (SE end) near the intersection with Marine Drive.

You can view the alternate walk here.

This will be at Columbus Coffee, Mitre 10 Mega,Petone.   We have advised them that we will be coming.

Cancellation

If required will be by email at 7:30am.

Happy June Walking

Koha

Remember that if you rely on others for your transport most weeks then a small $2 payment for a nearby walk and a $4 payment for a longer walk would help to lessen the costs a little for those providing the transport.
