Somes Island Walk

16 Walkers enjoyed their trip to Somes Island in almost perfect weather.  Many thanks to Brian Alderson who organised this trip which included listing all the alternative ways of ensuring you all arrived in time to catch the ferry.  We also understand that you all returned on the new electric ferry.

Last Weeks Walks

As noted above 18 walkers headed to Somes Island.  This left 41 walkers heading around the Local Churton Park streets.  Total walkers including both the Somes Island and local Churton Park walkers were as follows; 27 PP’s, 16 SS’s and 14 FF’s; a total of 59.  The SS’s were given a slightly longer walk than usual but their knowledge of Churton Park saw it cut down in size using a few shortcuts.  The Thursday Night Explorers had a lovely night with this bringing out 11 walkers plus one dog which apparently equals their best ever turnout.  They took in Seton Nossiter Park and parts of Newlands and Grenada.  The Friday Walkers had a change of venue and ended up with a good walk in the hills above Lowry and York Bays.  They were down to 8 walkers.

This Weeks Walks

This weeks walks are all in Whitby.  These are walks kindly prepared by Andy.

PP’s: A 3.46km loop taking in walkways, parks and footpaths.  There is nothing too steep.    You can see the walk here.

SS’s: A 6.41km loop walk also on a mixture of walkways, parks and footpaths.  You can see the walk here.

FF’s: A 7.67km loop taking in quite a bit of Whitby and of course there will be a few hills.  You can see the walk here.

Parking

Parking for all groups is in the reasonably large Adventure Park Carpark which is accessed off Discovery Drive opposite the Whitby Shopping Area.

Coffee

Coffee this week will be at Columbus Coffee, Mitre 10 Mega, Porirua.  We have told Columbus Coffee that a good number of us will be calling in for a coffee.

Website

When you open the website to view your walk have a quick look at the “Home Page”.  This usually has a new picture each week generally showing a view from one of our walks.

Cancellation

If the walks are cancelled an email will be sent out as early as possible but definitely before 8:00am.

Koha

Every week we leave a note about Koha in the newsletter.  We have no idea what private sharing arrangements are in place regarding getting rides but we trust that those who don’t regularly bring cars do make up for it in some small way, be it buying a coffee for the driver or by making some small cash donation.

Photos

Below are some photos from the week before last.  Walkers please try and take a photo of each group on walking days and email them to peter@jville.kiwi preferably small size (around 450kb).
