Last Weeks Walks

The Aotea/Papakowhai walks were carried out in ever improving weather and this allowed for a successful after walk picnic in the grounds of Aotea Lagoon.  We will look to have one or two more after walk picnics before we are back into Autumn and Winter. There was a minor hiccup with the FF’s original walk but this was easily overcome by the good work of one of regular FF walkers. 15 PP’s, 26 SS’s and 23 FF’s took part making a total of 64 walkers.  A very good turnout.

The good weather continued on, allowing 9 Thursday Night Walkers to complete an enjoyable walk within Horokiwi Reserve and on Friday, 19 Friday Walkers took on a reasonably challenging walk along a not well know track that headed along the ridgeline above Eastbourne.

Photos

Here is the collection of photos from last week.  Walkers please try and take a photo of each group on walking days and email them to peter@jville.kiwi preferably small size (around 450kb).

Walk Schedules

You can look at the walk schedule for February here.

Wednesday 26th January 2022
This weeks Walk is a Novelty Poker Walk

“Bring a pen or pencil.”  Years back the walking group committee organised a “Poker Walk” and it has been talked about it ever since.  So for those of us who missed it or hadn’t joined the walking group at the time, then this is the opportunity to take part.

How does it work?

Teams of 5 walkers will be given a Clue Sheet that contains 11 picture clues of locations around Churton Park.  Teams are required to visit these 11 locations (within a certain time frame) and answer a simple question relating to this place. Locations can be visited in any order.

There are also three locations where questions will be asked AFTER the end of the walk where bonus points can be earned.

To keep you thinking during the walk there are 3 Brainteasers that can be answered to earn additional points.

Each team will therefore earn a number of points. For each point a team earns a playing card is issued. The three teams with the best POKER hand will win a prize.

Walkers are asked to gather at our normal meeting place at slightly earlier time of 8:45am this Wednesday and report to the organizers in preparation for being allocated randomly into teams of 5.

Parking

Parking is in the New World carpark keeping to the Southern end and also on the street adjacent to the carpark.

Coffee

Back at Simmer.  They now seem happy to set aside the outside area for us.  They will be warned that we are heading back to Simmer after our walks.

Friday Night Drinkies

The first Friday Night Drinkies will be the first Friday in February - that is Friday the 4th.

Happy Walking,
Russell Paterson

Cancellation

The normal cancellation before 8:00am will be sent by email if required.

Koha

Remember that if you rely on others for your transport most weeks then a small $2 payment for a nearby walk and a $4 payment for a longer walk would help to lessen the costs a little for those providing the transport.
