Last Weeks Walks

Well the wet weather finally eased.  Wednesday started looking a little doubtful but turned out to be a good walking day for the tour of Tawa’s streets.  Some 10 PP’s, 19 SS’s and 16 FF’s (a total of 45) completed the walks some of whom headed to coffee in the Café at the south end of Outlet City.  On Thursday night without their regular organiser 4 Thursday Night Crawlers got together at 7:00pm and headed off around the local Churton Park streets.  Friday’s weather was OK for walking which saw some 14 walkers headed to the parking near Raroa Station and then walking up to the Skyline Walkway and then along the ridges to Karori Park Café and then back by bus and train.  We hear that they encountered some mud.

This Weeks Walks (Wednesday 17 August)

Some new walks this week if the weather allows.  We have found a large parking area at the back of Macalister Park and we are using this as the start and finish of the walks.

PP’s: A 3.62km loop walk taking in park tracks and streets.  If the park tracks look too wet an option on streets only will have been printed    You can view the walk here.  Note the Mapometer server was down at 1500 on Sunday the 14th - may still be an issue.

SS’s: A 4.99km loop walk using mainly streets and a short section of a park walkway.  You can view the walk here.  Note the Mapometer server was down at 1500 on Sunday the 14th - may still be an issue.

FF’s: A 7.03km loop walk using footpaths and park walkways.  You can view the walk here.  Note the Mapometer server was down at 1500 on Sunday the 14th - may still be an issue.

Parking

Parking for all three groups is in the large higher level carpark at the rear of Macalister Park. (The rear of this park is also called Liardet Park.). The carpark is within Liardet Street which can be accessed either off Britomart Street or off Farnham Street.

Coffee

We have told Simmer that there will be walkers coming back there for coffee.

Website

When you open the website to view your walk have a quick look at the “Home Page”.  This usually has a new picture each week generally showing a view from one of our walks.

Cancellation

If the walks are cancelled an email will be sent out as early as possible but definitely before 8:00am.

Koha

Every week we leave a note about Koha in the newsletter.  We have no idea what private sharing arrangements are in place regarding getting rides but we trust that those who don’t regularly bring cars do make up for it in some small way, be it buying a coffee for the driver or by making some small cash donation.

You can look at the walk schedule for the rest of August here.
