Convenor’s Comment

Bart Jones celebrates his 80th birthday.

During the past week Bart Jones celebrated reaching his 80th birthday with his friends, some fellow walkers and family.  It was in 2013 that Bart had an idea about getting a group of enthusiastic walkers together for regular walks.  Brian Vincent remembers those early days when up to 12 walkers would stride around the streets of Churton Park.  It has been through Bart's early championing that the group subsequently grew to what we are today with the various walks and social activities.   On behalf of all members we congratulate Bart on reaching his 80th birthday and wish him well in the years to come.

Last Weeks Walks

All Wednesday’s walks were based in Linden.  If we do these again in the future we will cut out the loop into Wilf Mexted Reserve for the PP’s as it was not easy to find or navigate.  For the FF’s and SS’s we will cut out the side loop that circumnavigated the local water reservoir.  (Our retired Water Engineer will not be impressed with the lack of interest in the water reservoir).  Anyway the day was near perfect and the views from the ridge line road were great.  We trust everyone enjoyed the walks.  There were 15 PP’s (includes two Dandy Dawdlers), 21 SS’s and 18 FF’s on the walks.  (54 Total).  The Thursday Night Crawlers numbered 6 for their Thursday night local walk and on Friday a total of 30 Friday Walkers headed over the Rimutaka’s for a very enjoyable Wairarapa walk.

Photos

Here are some photos from last week and before.  Walkers please try and take a photo of each group on walking days and email them to peter@jville.kiwi preferably small size (around 450kb).

This week's walks

We are returning to Karori for this weeks walks.  These are walks that were last carried out well over a year ago.

Walks

PP’s: A 4.80km loop walk taking in the various streets within Karori.  There are plenty of opportunities to shorten the walk if required, but don’t get lost doing so.  You can view the walk here.

SS’s: A 4.54km loop walk.  A fairly short walk this week but it does include part of Wrights Hill, but this can be taken slowly.    You can view the walk here.

FF’s: A 5.60km loop taking in Wrights Hill and part of the Sanctuary fence line.  You can view the walk here.

Parking

The parking for all three groups is on the street using the area between 43 and 49 Messiness Road and also the nearby Plymouth Street.  We have always found adequate parking in the past.

Coffee

Karori Park Café have been told we will be arriving for coffee after our walks.  In the past this café is one of the better ones for dealing with our numbers.

Cancellation

If required will be by email at 8:00am.

Happy March Walking .

Koha

Remember that if you rely on others for your transport most weeks then a small $2 payment for a nearby walk and a $4 payment for a longer walk would help to lessen the costs a little for those providing the transport.
