Last Weeks Walks

All our scheduled walks went ahead last week and on Wednesday we had 59 walkers in total enjoying the three walks - 14 Pleasure Pacers (three did their own shorter walk), 25 Steady Steppers and 20 Fast Footers.  The Thursday evening walk from Johnsonville to Paparangi and Newlands and return was completed by 6 walkers plus, as always, Red.  On Friday 18 walkers set out on a circumnavigation of the Pauatahanui inlet followed shortly afterwards by another 3 walkers who completed the same course.

Friday night’s drinks and meals at the Sprig and Fern saw a good number enjoy the occasion.  While we still have the November and December bookings to come I have confirmed with them that we will be doing the same next year.

Finally, a brief reminder that the Christmas function has been booked for 29 November.  More details to follow in due course.

Here’s hoping the weather remains fine for us again this week.

Enjoy your walks

Reminder

Please ensure that you inform your group’s leader if you leave a walk partway through.

This Weeks Walks (Wednesday 11 October)

The three walks this week are based in Plimmerton.  The walks are similar to or the same as walks that we have carried out in this area before.  Please note that the walk “links” take you to Plotaroute.  Unfortunately at the time of preparing the walks NZMapometer was still down for maintenance.  Once NZMapometer is on line again the walks will be copied back into our records.

PP’s: A 4.5km walk that takes in the coast, a loop into the streets and a park and back via a minor hill. (The hill can be avoided.)  You can see the walk here.

SS’s: A 7.2km loop heading along the walking track that parallels the State Highway; then along Airlie Road to the start of the Taua Tapu  and then back to the start point using this track and the roads leading from this track that take you down to Plimmerton and from there it is back to the start point. This is a walk we have used a couple of times in the past.  You can see the walk here.

FF’s: A 7.8km loop walk that heads along the coast to Airlie Road and then along Airlie Road to the start of the Taua Tapu Track and back to the start point using this track and the streets that lead off this track. It is a walk that we have carried out in the past.  You can see the walk here.

Parking

There is a large area of commuter parking adjacent to Palmers Garden Centre.  However this may be full and we may have to park along the nearby Urlic Street.  Parking would be on the side of this road.

Coffee

We will have told Palmers that a good number of us will be calling for coffee.  They generally reserve an area for us.  There are also other Café’s in the nearby Plimmerton Village if the Palmers Café gets overrun.  And of course there is Simmer back at Churton Park.

Website

When you open the website to view your walk have a quick look at the “Home Page”.  This usually has a new picture each week generally showing a view from one of our walks.

Cancellation

If the walks are cancelled an email will be sent out as early as possible but definitely before 8:00am.

Photos

Below here are the photos from last week.  Walkers please try and take a photo of each group on walking days and email them to peter@jville.kiwi.  Preferably small size (around 450kb).
