Churton Park Community Walkers

Newsletter 16 April 2023

Our regular walks

We are fortunate to have a great team organising all our walks.  The Wednesday walks require some planning as we have the three different walks to arrange each week.  These are organised by Russell Paterson, Helen Paterson, Andy Dunn, John Holloway and Bill Gaudie with myself in attendance.  Russell then sends us the details for including in the Newsletter each week.   The Wednesday and Friday walks are arranged separately by the walkers in each of those groups – Christine Binns for the Thursday group and the Friday group have a system involving walks organised by Keith Thomas, Gary Dick, Brian Alderson, Jane Gaudie, Wendy Bentley and John Leonard. So a big thanks from all of us for their contributions.

Last Weeks Walks

Our walks last week took us around Tawa and it was pleasing to see 13 Pleasure Pacers, 28 Steady Steppers and 14 Fast Footers venture out.  The weather behaved itself and a good number stayed for a coffee afterwards.  The Thursday evening group saw 6 walkers also head out to Tawa going from the Bucket Tree to Linden and return.  While on Friday 14 walkers went into Nikau Valley/Paraparaumu loop.

This Weeks Walks (Wednesday 19 April)

This Week it is school holidays so we are taking the opportunity to walk in town trusting that the Traffic will be light.

PP’s: A 4.85km flat walk with a portion being  a there and back with a bit of a loop at the end.  You can see the walk here.

SS’s: A 6.67km loop with one reasonably long and steady climb and the rest either downhill or flat.

You can see the walk here.

FF’s: A 8.09km loop taking in a longish  but steady climb and then returning some of tracks, some footpaths and some walkways.  As always there are some hills. You can see the walk here.

Parking

Parking for all groups is in the streets and parking areas in the general vicinity of Spruce Goose in Lyall Parade.  There should be ample parking for all.

Coffee

Coffee is anywhere you want to arrange with other walkers before your journey back to Churton Park.    Main choice is Spruce Goose who don’t allow us to book, cafés in Island Bay café with Thyme and Simmer as choices on the way home.  None of these are booked.

Website

When you open the website to view your walk have a quick look at the “Home Page”.  This usually has a new picture each week generally showing a view from one of our walks.

Cancellation

If the walks are cancelled an email will be sent out as early as possible but definitely before 8:00am.

Enjoy your walks.
Brian Vincent.

Koha

Every week we leave a note about Koha in the newsletter.  We have no idea what private sharing arrangements are in place regarding getting rides but we trust that those who don’t regularly bring cars do make up for it in some small way, be it buying a coffee for the driver or by making some small cash donation.

Below are some photos from last week and earlier.  Walkers please try and take a photo of each group on walking days and email them to peter@jville.kiwi preferably small size (around 450kb).
