Last Weeks Walks

Last week 50 walkers strolled around the streets of Petone. There were 8 pleasure pacers, 21 steady steppers and 21 fast footers.  Afterwards a coffee/tea and a snack or two was enjoyed by all at Mitre 10 Mega in Petone.  On Thursday evening there were 6 walkers taking advantage of a nice calm evening from Churton Park to Johnsonville and return.  The Friday group also enjoyed perfect conditions for their walk from Dry Creek to Cornish St, with an initial climb up Belmont Park. Five of the group walked 14kms while the other 9 completed a 22.5kms walk.

Our 10th Anniversary Dinner

Please make a note in your diaries that this function will be at The Pines from 6pm on 29 July. As expected in these days of cost escalation, the food costs have increased however we have managed to keep the cost for those attending to $42 per person while maintaining the same menu choice as for our previous function at this venue.  We will be providing a bus service from Churton Park (and return) for those who would like to travel together to the venue.  This will cost only $6 per person (recognising our tenth anniversary, making this evening a special one) and to encourage walkers to take up this option due to limited parking at The Pines and also avoiding the travel across the city by cars.  The overall cost therefore is similar to last year.

If you wish to attend please make payment ($48 for function and bus or $42 for function only) to 02-0524-0233091-000 quoting your name.  No other reference is necessary but if you wish to add “dinner” that’s fine.  No cash payments please.

The photograph below shows our original walkers (together with guest Helene Ritchie).

In the photo are:  Vicki Prout, Brian Vincent, Bart Jones, Rod Stainer, Brian and Janet Poole, and Helene Ritchie.

If any current member can identify the names of the remaining five walkers can they please inform either Bart Jones or Brian Vincent.

This Weeks Walks (Wednesday 14 June)

This week’s walks were listed to be in the Seton Nossiter Park area but we have walked in that area not so long ago and prior to this the Johnsonville walks were cancelled (on the day of the CPR course); thus the decision has been made that the walks will be in the Johnsonville area.

PP’s: A 5.37km loop on the streets and a short section of track all within Johnsonville. There is a little bit of uphill but nothing of real note. There are a couple of places where this walk can be cut short in walkers make this choice. You can see the walk here.

SS’s: A 6.31km loop walk within the streets and parks of Johnsonville. The walk includes some hills; however the majority of the walk is reasonably flat. You can see the walk here.

FF’s: A 8.37km loop walk within the streets and parks of Johnsonville. Of course there are some hills.  You can see the walk here.

Parking

Parking: Parking for all three groups is in Alex Moore Park carpark which is accessed a short distance along Bannister Avenue Street. There should be sufficient parking available for all of us (we believe).

Coffee

Coffee will be back at Simmer and we have warned them that a group of us will be arriving after our walks. There are other cafe’s on the way home as well.

Website

When you open the website to view your walk have a quick look at the “Home Page”.  This usually has a new picture each week generally showing a view from one of our walks.

Cancellation

If the walks are cancelled an email will be sent out as early as possible but definitely before 8:00am.

Enjoy your walks.
Brian Vincent.
