Convenor’s Comment

Alison’s Corner

Only one birthday to report on this coming week.  That is Mike Drain.  We trust that Mike has a very enjoyable special day.  (The same for anyone we have missed.)

Ron Butterworth

It was one year ago on the Saturday just past that Ron Butterworth past away on one of our Friday walks in the Rimutaka Forest Park.  He remains in the memories of the FF’s and Friday Walkers.

Friday Night “Drinkies”

Simmer remains closed at nights so the Friday Night “Drinkies” will be held again at the “Sprig and Fern” in Tawa at 5:00pm on Friday 5th November 2021.  To avoid payment problems we understand a pay as you go system will be instigated for our group.

Christmas Lunch

Please keep the payments rolling in.  That is $36 per head for the lunch and if taking the bus; then an additional $10.  There is plenty of room on the bus.  The bus will leave from Churton Park at 11:15am for an arrival at “The Pines” no earlier than 12:05pm.  The bus will leave “The Pines” at about 3:30pm for the return to Churton Park.  Please pay online to the following; Churton Park Community Walkers Bank Account No: 02-0524-0233091-000 using name/s and CPCW Lunch as reference. (Cash in a sealed envelope to either Keith Thomas or Russell Paterson with your name/s on the outside is OK but online payment is the preference). A confirmation email will be sent confirming your payment has been received and your place at the lunch confirmed.  We have to give final numbers etc to “The Pines” 10 working days prior to the event; thus we need these payments (thereby confirmation) by Wednesday 10th November.  (Any queries please use the following email -  churtonparkcw@gmail.com.)    We also trust that all attendees will be fully vaccinated.

Should there be anyone who has expressed interest in coming and can no longer come, then please let us know by email.

Last Weeks Walks

Wednesday’s walks were all cancelled. The day did improve later on but not earlier enough to go on our walks.  The weather was not much better on Thursday night and so the Thursday night walk was also cancelled.   Friday’s weather was much better with 24 walkers heading to Baring Head for a coastal loop.

Photos

Here are some photos from from last week.  Walkers please try and take a photo of each group on walking days and email them to peter@jville.kiwi preferably small size (around 450kb).

Walk Schedules

You can look at the walk schedule for the rest of November here.

Wednesday 3rd November 2021
General

The schedule suggested that this week’s walk were to be in Eastbourne.  However we understand that some of the Eastbourne tracks are closed for maintenance.  So the easy solution is to repeat the walks that were proposed for last week.  Thus the walks this Wednesday are the three new walks that were created by Gay during Level 3.  These take in streets in the Linden area of Tawa. (The walk schedule will be updated.)

PP’s:  A 3.74km loop walk almost totally on streets but with a voluntary small optional offshoot loop within a bush area.  The route goes under SH1 in two different areas. All the hills are relatively gentle.  You can view the walk here.

SS’s:   A 5.47km loop starting off in the Reserve and returning via the streets.  You can view the walk here.

FF’s:    A 7.80km walk using some tracks in the Reserve and also the streets.  You can view the walk here.

Parking

PP's:  In Hinau Street alongside Kowhai Park which is north of Tawa College and on the other side.  Turn right off Tawa Main Road at McLellan Street and then left into Hinau Street.

SS's:  Outside or near to the entrance of Wilf Mexted Reserve.  This is where Collins Ave runs into Woodman Drive.  Turn off Tawa Main Road at Linden Avenue which changes to Collins Avenue.

FF's:  In Hinau Street alongside Kowhai Park which is north of Tawa College and on the other side.  Turn right off Tawa Main Road at McLellan Street and then left into Hinau Street.

Coffee

We have told BB’s cafĂ© in Dress Smart Outlet Centre that quite a few of us will be coming.  There is of course Simmer who we will also advise that some of us are coming.  Hopefully that will allow for most of us.

Cancellation

The normal cancellation before 8:00am will be sent by email if required.

We are still walking under Level 2 so remember to scan in and try for a little bit of social distancing.

Happy walking

Russell Paterson

Koha

Remember that if you rely on others for your transport most weeks then a small $2 payment for a nearby walk and a $4 payment for a longer walk would help to lessen the costs a little for those providing the transport.

Laugh

The fattest knight at King Arthur's round table was Sir Cumference.  He acquired his size from too much pi.
