Last Weeks Walks

The Wednesday morning’s weather was not great but the forecast was promising so some 34 walkers took on the Khandallah Walks that started and ended at Nairnville Park.  The total of 34 was made up of 9 PP’s, 12 SS’s and 13 FF’s.  Thursday night saw 9 Thursday Night Crawlers walking around the streets of Newlands.  The loss of daylight and the colder weather will keep them on the streets and off the tracks until Spring arrives.  Friday saw 15 Friday walkers complete a circuit taking in Johnsonville, Khandallah and Newlands.  The circuit took in the uphill track by the railway bridge that we all drive past every time we head up or down Ngauranga Gorge.

Photos

Here are some photos from last week and before.  Walkers please try and take a photo of each group on walking days and email them to peter@jville.kiwi preferably small size (around 450kb).

This week's walks

This week we are heading to the Botanical Gardens for walks that include the paths within the Gardens and some of the surrounding streets.  The parking within the gardens is now metered so we will be parking within the Coupon Parking Area that gives us free parking for 2 hours (No coupons required). This parking was checked out earlier in the year and showed plenty of available parking.  A review of this parking will take place on Monday morning just to confirm that this is still the case.  In the unlikely event that the parking turns out to be a problem an email will be sent out with an alternative plan.  The walks are shorter than normal but they do include undulating ground (i.e. some small hills).

Walks

PP’s: A 3.14km loop walk nearly all within the Gardens.  You can view the walk here.

SS’s: A 4.54km loop taking in the Garden Tracks and some of the surrounding streets.  You can view the walk here.

FF’s: A 6.34km loop similar to but longer than the SS’s.  You can view the walk here.

Parking

Parking for all groups is in the same place.  This is on Glenmore Street opposite the intersection of Orange Kaupapa Road with Glenmore Street.

Coffee

At the café within the Botanical Gardens.  (This is now called “Picnic Café”.) They will have been warned that we will be coming.  Just remember the parking is only for two hours and so if you think having a coffee after the walk will exceed the two hours you can either ignore the minor risk or repark your car a short distance from the original park.

Cancellation

If required will be by email at 7:30am.

Happy April Walking

Remember that if you rely on others for your transport most weeks then a small $2 payment for a nearby walk and a $4 payment for a longer walk would help to lessen the costs a little for those providing the transport.
